Anyone seen Cloud Atlas yet? It is getting mixed reviews, but I am not expecting it to bring me to my knees with its philosophical and intellectual depths. I am expecting the kind of sensual feast "Perfume", "Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" and "Stardust" were - so would be good to hear someone confirm this is what I will be getting. :P

All those movies were mediocre movies based on fantastic books. (maybe not parnassus, don't know it that is a book), the other two I read and loved and was disappointed when the movie was made.
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

The Governor gets points for country girl mindfucking.   Glenn still needs to find his inner SNLF non-com, though.  Still a pussy.

I hope Rick takes that bayonet hand and shoves it up Merle's ass.  Even better if his brother winds up doing it.  Or better yet, Michonne.

Mid-season finale next week.  Dammit.   8 down, 8 to go.   :(

5am is my usual Me & Rick Time.  I enjoy the lonely solace of the early morn to be with my walkers, morning smokes and coffee.

Sorry, guys.

I am still trying to figure out how the telecommuting-nerd character's angle is supposed to develop, now that his dreams of life-after-zombie have been disillusioned.

And the Governor's mind games with Maggie are not surprising, based on how it seems his character behaves in the graphic novels, but still eased up quite a bit for television.  Brutal zombie violence is one thing, but hard to see them pushing the "brutal rape" envelope.

I saw it and enjoyed it a lot - this is definitely a love it or hate it sort of movie, and I loved it. It is visually stunning, at the least.

So Boardwalk Empire finale this Sunday.   I expect a high body count.

Been going through my James Bond movies.  Got up through Thunderball on the one end and both the currently-on-home-video Daniel Craigs on the other.  Two questions:

1)I've heard tell in some parts that From Russia With Love is considered a "very good" or even "great" Bond movie?  Is this a widely held opinion?  Are a lot of people actually high, all the time?  Compared to either Dr. No preceding it or Goldfinger following it, it pales, but even without suffering from standing between giants, it's blah in its own right, with only a few scenes of great interest.  The train fight is really good, sure, and I liked that there was more SPECTRE, but most everything else is kind of mediocre, the Gypsy part is sort of racist and even if it were not it's also padding, and the central conceit of the story is boring and also poor spywork, blowing up an embassy and stealing an encryption machine, letting the Soviets know that their encryption system is compromised.

2)Why would anyone who liked Casino Royale also dislike Quantum of Solace, given that they are basically the same in tone and Quantum has more murders and explosions?  Am I wrong in understanding that Quantum is considered a weaker entry?  If not, I don't get it.  Personally, I liked the water thing.  It's maybe a little mundane, but the fate of a whole country, albeit Bolivia, is in the balance.  Also Olga Kurylenko is hot.  So hot.

Just finished watching a short series on the bbc entitled "The Dark Charisma of Adolf Hitler", written and presented by Laurence Rees (though you only hear him), the guy who did the 'The Nazis: A Warning From History' and the excellent and the forensic 'Auschwitz : The Nazis & The 'Final Solution'

Catch the three one hour parts here, if within uk or with the right proxy:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01p01pm/The_Dark_Charisma_of_Adolf_Hitler_Episode_1/

BBC news item about there series:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20237437

And the book here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0091917638

What's particularly noteworthy is the series uses a large amount of restored colour film footage, both pre-war and wartime.

And it shows relatively long excerpts from Hitler's speeches, fascinating to watch how he worked his 'magic' on crowds.
