Just got back from the drive-in, saw Dark Shadows with Men In Black 3.  Dark Shadows was damned good, but was overshadowed by MIB3, IMO, which really surprised me.  The plot was really fine-tuned, it had me laughing so hard I was crying, but it still dished out a good story.  A couple of spoiler-free bullet points:

 • Ever since they let slip that at least part took place in the past, everybody who'd seen 1 and 2 couldn't help but wonder what kind of backstory might be slipped in.  Well, there is backstory, and it's surprising, so barring spoilers, there's no way to see it coming.
 • Josh Brolin is perfect as Young K, and not just in appearance; if it wasn't for the timbre of his voice, you could totally believe you're watching an age-regressed Tommy Lee Jones playing the role
 • This line from the original is finally answered: "How many times you neuralize me, K?"

Interesting. I was very disappointed with MIB2, it's great if MIB3 is worth seeing.

The problem with MIB2 (that 3 corrects) was:
There was no tension for the main characters.  You knew they were going to save the day, and the only question was how were they going to Macgyver it by the end?  This one's completely in reverse.  It's framed more as a "reverse whodunnit" where the question for us plot-hounds was who the victim was actually going to be.  The answer was COMPLETELY unpredictable (there are no hints in the early part of the movie or the previous movies), and it packs a WALLOP.  In short, the emotional investment in the movie is MUCH higher than in 2.
Drones.  A whimsical take on office cogs.  Sort of a happy go lucky Office Space, without the cursing, gangster rap, or sex jokes.

In fact, the only thing it shares with Office Space is that it's set in an office.  So never mind that comparison.  It's just a fun little movie.

Just how many lockers do they go through before they record the ones with the Michaelangelo or a few hundred grand in cash hidden in them?

They also seem to just make up the prices from a random number generator.
PDH!

Porko Rosso- Awesome. Probally one of the best Ghibli films. I had very little idea what it was about before seeing it, was pleasantly surprised.

My Neighbour Tottoro- I'm sure I have seen this before, at least part of it, but maybe not all. Its...rather meh TBH. Just didn't appeal. Got a lot of entertainment though from laughing at what the people were actually saying and what the English subtitles said they were saying. Total mismatch a lot of time, the scene where the strange kid gives the girls his brolly for instance must have had a totally different feeling in English. Very often the soundtrack would be silent but the subtitles would say a lot.

Dave Hester:  This TV stand...I would sell it in my shop for 1000 dollars
Darrell: This is a 275 dollar bill!
Jerrod and his whore wife: Who cares what they think?
Barry: Hey! Look at my hot rod and cult leader jacket!

Saw the Polish movie In Darkness last night, a Holocaust movie about two Polish men who extort Jews who are hiding in the sewers near Lodz. It was pretty dark...mostly because it took place in sewers. Not bad at all. Curiousity piqued by one of the officers who was in charge of the town, who seemed to be a Ukrainian in a non-Nazi uniform. Wasn't aware there were separate non-SS, Ukrainian units operating in Poland in 1944. At least you don't see that often.

The Patriot was on Friday night.  As much as I enjoy Brits getting whacked, that movie always make me retch and feel immense shame that Mel Gibson calls America home.

I love me some Psycho Mel, but The Patriot is an abomination worse than anything Michael Bay could ever butcher, and I refuse to watch his anti-Vatican II snuff porn.

I thought Apocalypto was a lot of fun, actually.  Great chase flick.
