Wait?  No feathers?

This show's stupid.
Aren't those protofeathers on the head?
I dunno, could be.
So the show doesn't suck based on that.  It sucks based on the fact that there are kids involved.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

So not only am I amazed that the "in the know kids" were that stupid and that they were not armed with anti-dinosaur weapons.
You do realize that the show is on network TV, right?

Yes I realize that.

Now, my initial plan here was to list a few TV series that are intelligent and well thought through, but it seems all of those shows are on Cable. With the exception of The X-Files (first half) and The Simpsons (both of which came on FOX at a time when FOX was network with a small "n") there is no good network TV.

I'll just limit myself to bitching about how it could have been so much better on Internet Forums.

You point is most excellently and conclusively made. Touché.
First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

So is this Terranova actually good?
It sounded awful but there seems to be a lot of talk about it.

If the concept sounds awful to you, the acting and writing certainly won't make you change your mind. I like it though.

It is really really terrible. But it's about Dinosaurs so I have to watch. After hating myself for watching another episode of this turkey I come here to vent.

It kills time.  There will be Dark Secrets and Aliens and Conspiracies aplenty that will never be adequately explained though.

Yes there is a difference.

What does one or two or even three years have to do with anything? They have a fucking great 30 ft high fence around the place and they fight battles against packs of 30 foot tall therapod carnosaurs.

The only remotely similar situation in the western world are arctic environments with polar bears. On Svalbard any group leaving New Aalesund has to have a gun. I have a friend who has worked a few summers a a guide there on the grounds that A) She's a geologist, B) Likes guns and C) Likes skis.

In august a kid was killed and partially eaten by a polar bear. The kid was part of an english group of first timers who refused to take a gun with them. The experienced kids all unanimously warned the first timers beforehand. It is the only place on the planet that I know about where there is not only a right, but a duty to bear arms.

So not only am I amazed that the "in the know kids" were that stupid and that they were not armed with anti-dinosaur weapons.
ancient towns and villages had fence/walls.  That didn't stop people from going outside the walls alone.

It has dinosaurs, so I watched episode "3". It had a decent plotline with some real science and biology behind it. With a few plot holes of course. But they go and ruin it with a Dawson's Dinosaur Fortress plotline about how the paleobiologist plots to get old flame included in Terrannova project while husband is in prison to make a move...

Though, territorial nesting birds of today will not murder any animals living in the nesting area, but rather will decline to nest if it is not abandoned. Usually the area was chosen BECAUSE it was abandoned. If you intrude into an Arctic Tern nesting area they will try to scare you off, but if that doesn't work, they will abandon their chicks and try again next year. Even Salmon, who have a multi year breeding cycle and they return to hatching area to breed have a run every year.
First, it's starting to look stupid... This week was the dino of the week crisis, next week will be the infamous virus causing memory loss and paranoia while brillant scientist duke it out with science to find a cure in a few hours.  If our scientists were that productive, there wouldn't be much diseases left.

Anyway, about ep#3... First, they're not birds, they're reptiles, the science dude said it so (and it's still a matter of debate if dinos were reptiles or birds or both).  If you unpack your beach gear near an alligator or crocodile nesting area, I think they will attack you, if there is 5 of them and one of you.  And they said the site was abandonned but they found egg shells while drilling.  I don't know if biologically speaking an egg could take 10 years to hatch, but that was their plot line.  They explained that perfectly during the show.

I find it awful that as a sci-fi show they seem to always bring back the same kind of stories we saw in TNG, Voyager, SG1, SGU, etc, etc, but that has nothing to do with your criticism...

It is really really terrible. But it's about Dinosaurs so I have to watch. After hating myself for watching another episode of this turkey I come here to vent.

I stopped having to watch something because it had Dinosaurs in it about the time I was 12.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

After the season finale of that show Dinosaurs when they killed off all the characters in a mass extinction -  I couldn't watch dinosaur shows anymore. :(

With Terra Nova I like the story line. Small colonies of humans trying to make it,  survive and thrive, in a new world. Brings up all sorts of societal, governing and survival issues to be grappled with.
