The Brain

The Crow (new version). Pennywise is cast as Lisbeth Salander of The Girl With/Who... fame, but finds himself in a new The Crow. I haven't read the source material, so can't compare them that way, but from a movie perspective it is inferior to the old version in every way.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

The new Crow movie was supposed to have been, and looked, absolutely dreadful.

Do Mandroids Dream of Eclectic Sheep?

Duque de Bragança

Par for the course for '90s remakes, if not remakes, unless there was a Carpenter or De Palma around.

One of the fun things in movies and TV shows is when they dress up city A to masquerade as city B. E.g. Vienna was masking as Bratislava in a Bond movie, and as Moscow in Firefox (always funny when you recognize the locations they used in the move).

Meanwhile, in the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, the episode where 9 year old Indy has a crush on the daughter of Franz Ferdinand and meets Freud, Jung and Adler was filmed in Prague.

In The Dark Knight Rises it really took me out of the movie that they filmed the football match at Heinz Field with Pittsburgh Steelers players.

Looking up something on IMDB I came across The Hotel New Hampshire (which I hadn't seen in ages) but which takes place partly in "Vienna". The one screen capture they had was this which is clearly not in Vienna (we have no cupola like the one in the background):

Thanks to Google image search, this one was easy to identify - it's old town Montreal

This popped up in my YouTube feed.

I have to admit, as a concept this is great

(Though I'm always wary of "big corporation makes movie about big corporations being horrible", see also Amazon's Fallout :P )

You cannot view this attachment.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

My favorite recent bit of this is when HBO tried to pass Barcelona as Rome and The Vatican in Mrs Davies. Barcelona looks absolutely nothing like Rome.

Saw Project Hail Mary with my boy. Went to an old-school single screen theatre as well.

Good fun. Went in without any knowledge about the film or story. I thought the vibe was kind of old-school golden age sci-fi. We both enjoyed it.

For the same reason, I always get slightly thrown out of a movie whenever Montreal is meant to stand in as generic « European » city. And Montreal has been used a lot. Quebec City as well (most egregious was « Catch me if you can » because they used the very iconic Place Royale, as « generic French village ».
Que le grand cric me croque !

Same for me when Vancouver is used as generic American city.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Jacob

I always really enjoyed the iconic North Shore mountains in the background of Rumble in the Bronx.

I very much enjoyed Liverpool serving as Gotham in the latest Batman movie (though always feel it's a little double-edged if a city gets to be Gotham)

From a London perspective my main experience of watching London in films was tweaked very sweetly in the Paddington movie:

I also always end up wondering how they're affording that house/flat  (Weirdly I think Industry actally got it right where they all appear to be house-sharing in Clapham which is accurate for people who recreationally wear gilets.)
Let's bomb Russia!

Isn't Toronto used a lot as "New York"? Which made the episode of Strange New World funny when Kirk says, "Are we in New York?" and La'an basically says, "No, this is Toronto, duh!"

And Hamilton if it's pre 80s (or supposed to be Chicago)
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Yes, but like Jacob, I notice the Vancouver landmarks that show up on the screen, so it's more jarring.
