 Yeah - non-American Chris Evans is only relevant to a niche of Brits of a certain age

Director Steve McQueen angers me and should be forced to change his name. Every time I hear about him I can't help but think of the actor.
American Chris Evans can do one too.

Who tf is non-American Chris Evans?

OTOH, some people even prefer the Lynch adaptation...

I would avoid those people. :P

As for director Steve McQueen, he could use his middle initial, like Michael B. Jordan.  :hmm:

Just came back from watching Dune. Seriously impressive film. My hearing is still recovering from the sensory assault that is its soundtrack.

Yeah it sounds like it has had a lot of success so far even during this pandemic.

If I were that suspicious, I would entirely avoid Languish.  :D

An A24 MacBeth film written and directed by one of the Coen brothers and starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. This will be something to see.

Yeah it sounds like it has had a lot of success so far even during this pandemic.

And it has been postponed several times, IIRC, it was meant to be released back in December. I'd say it might be the biggest movie to open during the pandemic, the only true film with aims to be a blockbuster.

What I find weird is that the studio is waiting for the results to greenlight the sequel, in this time and age when these huge films are made back to back or without waiting for the box office results so sequels can reach the screens when the earlier films are still in everyone's memories. If/When the sequel is greenlighted they'll still have to plan it, film it and do all sorts of post-production, so it will take several years for the sequel to arrive.

Wouldn't say so. We already had two Marvel flicks and a Fast&Furious thing, plus Tenet back last year.

It's certainly my most awaited film since Tenet, though.

They always do that with new franchises. Holllywood is very risk adverse.

But it was a big blockbuster - and this may just be timing in the UK - but there was lots of talk about "Bond saving cinema" and then they delayed the release until this autumn. So instead it was "Nolan saving cinema" because I think it was the first blockbuster after lockdown and there was a lot of chat from Nolan about how much better it would be seeing it in the cinema etc.

Yeah, that's kinda penny-wise-and-pound-foolish, given that it is unlikely that they will be able to make the second part of the story.  Trying to get the cast back together, then de-age the younger actors, etc. doesn't seem likely.

If they could fund the first two Twilight movies, they could fund this.  LOTR was a new franchise and much more expensive, but that was completely bankrolled from the start.  I think that the bad juju of David Lynch's movie screwed this version.

I also think Blade Runner: 2049 which I think opened to critical acclaim (and I love it) but didn't make the studio money.

I think their fear is they'd get the same but over multiple films.
