I watched London Has Fallen Today

I had lunch with at my brother's and we have this weird bonding tradition of watching the dumbest action movies possible.

Fucking Danny McBride on Alien Covenant??  WTF were they thinking?

Thor Ragnarok, despite its somewhat stealthy release and the suckiness of the Dark World.... Was surprisingly good, even despite the lack of Earth bound action.
Feels like there's a Hulk  film missing though.

The Square (2017)

A Swedish film that seems to be a wonderfully wicked satire on the art world.  The plot deals with an installation; a square on ground with the words "The Square is a sanctuary of trust and caring. Within it we all share equal rights and obligations. " on a plaque next to it.  With such a banal work the museum's media group struggles to promote it.  They comes up with a novel way to promote the film, a Youtube video called "Blonde homeless beggar girl child explodes in the square."  I wont' give away what happens in the video; but it's one of the funniest things I've seen in film.

The director said that the film is actually about toxic masculinity.  I guess it could be.  To me most of the protagonists problems seem to stem from the fact that he's a colossal weenie.  In the moment of catharsis our protagonist experiences personal growth by becoming an even bigger weenie.  So I gather that, like the Buddhist quest for enlightenment, the quest to become a weenie can never truly be fulfilled; you can always be a bigger weenie.

The director has said that Jews run Hollywood, and that it's easy to win an Oscar by making a movie about WW2 or the Holocaust.

Did I see that the best picture went to a movie about a woman who falls in love with a fishman?

Basically, yeah. Guillermo Del Toro's "The Shape of Water".
