Just finished season 2 of Animal Kingdom. I love that show.

Haven't seen Dunkirk yet either. Will do this Christmas once it's out on streaming over here.

This movie is to be seen on a a huge cinema screen. :(
70 mm or IMAX but streaming?

Prisoners. Has Villeneuve ever made a movie that isn't fucking brilliant?

Well, now I have to watch Enemy and Incendies to find out, but if the trend continues they're going to be great.

I hate going to the movies alone

I don't get that.  You're sitting quietly in a dark room for two hours.  Company doesn't change the experience.

Indeed. One of the most antisocial "social" activities.

Same here. Why would I want to take the old lady. She'll just start bitching when I spike my coke with Wild Turkey.

Beers/dinner before and after the movie. Talking about it while you have said beers. That's always been a big part of the experience to me.

Might just Netflix something at home if I'm going alone.

As well she should, Joel.

Those are great.  Big Data can't stop terrorism or state-sponsored hacking, but it can identify suicidal ideations.

We are stuck with the American market's love of superhero movies.  But even though we are stuck with them, they will hopefully grow out of this phase.  :P

They're still making all sorts of movies. What does it matter to you which grosses more?

I'd love more big hard sci-fi. We seem to be getting one of those per year (if lucky) vs. 6 superhero movies.  :hmm:

Again, the market is dictating it so that's that.
We're getting at least two next year.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

That last one sounds suspiciously like anime.

It is a famous cyberpunk manga. James Cameron has been working on adapting it for 20 years.

I like the manga Battle Angel Alita, but I wouldn't call it hard sci-fi.  It isn't space opera and it incorporates scientific ideas, but there's a lot of nonsense about will and mental powers overcoming impossible obstacles.  I'd call it a cyberpunk fantasy, if that makes any sense.
