It's pretty bad. There's a lot of worse though.
To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

The Good Place is a quite good sitcom I've stumbled on lately.

I've never seen it, but the reviews over here that I've read seem to say that it's one of the worst things on TV.

I've only watched the first season but I enjoyed it.  Entertaining fluff.

Josquius

The reviews all seem rather good.

It's not an all time great by any means. But vs what else there is around it's perfectly watchable

The new BBC series gunpowder seems decent on watching the first episode.
I never knew about James I being gay but reading more it seems very valid

Saw the new  Blade Runner over the weekend. Beautifully shot, though not sure why it was 3D. Also, way longer than it needed to be. Enjoyed it overall.

Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but they're both actors so here goes.

There's this weird story out that that Anthony Rapp (currently on Star Trek Discovery) says that in the mid-80s when he was only 14 Kevin Spacey put him on a bed, climbed on top of him and was making sexual advances on him.  Rapp is gay, and plays a gay character for what it's worth.

Kevin Spacey posts a reply on Twitter (because of course it is on Twitter) where he says he doesn't remember the incident, says if he did it he owes an apology, he would've been drunk. Spacey then says that "I choose now to live as a gay man" which, while interesting for him to come out of the closet, I'm not sure what it was to do with the allegation being made by Rapp.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

Josquius

Certainly he seems to be winning prizes for the best-worst coming out ever

He's getting ahead of the story.  As it were.

Yeah it feels odd to include but then he's cutting short then speculation about his sexuality.

Owen Jones got quite angry though.

QuoteHow dare you, Kevin Spacey. One of the age-old tropes deployed against gay and bisexual men is that they pose a threat to children, that they are synonymous with paedophiles and pederasts. This vicious lie has long proved useful in justifying the systematic persecution of gay and bisexual men. And that is why Spacey's statement is so utterly contemptible. He has been accused of attempted sexual assault against actor Anthony Rapp, who was a 14-year-old child at the time. The Oscar winner denied any recollection of the incident – and then chose to take the opportunity to come out.

It's a smoke screen. Gay rumors have swirled (Swished? :P ) around him for years. so now instead of talking about him as an assaulter people are now talking about him coming out.

What's the difference between a pedophile and a pederast?

And what is Owen Jone's point?

I think more recently the difference has been between liking young kids and those going through puberty (aka teens).

I think his point is that it feeds into negative perceptions of homosexuals to combine a response to sexual assault of a 14 year old and a coming out statement as a gay man in the same breath. Him being a gay man has little to do with the sexual assault as being a gay man != lusting after a 14 year old.

A pedophile doesn't necessarily indulge in sex with minors (he might find other outlets for his impulses, i.e. child porn). A pederast by definition is somebody who has sex with minors.
