No non-conspiracy theories available? (i.e. a catastrophic mechanical failure).

Pilot murder-suicide doesn't involve a conspiracy.  It's the simplest explanation, so I favor it as well.

It has happened before after all.

Yeah my impression from some documentary was that the pilot was the most likely theory.

It would be interesting to see some numbers on airline pilot suicides. I assume that the vast majority of airline pilots who commit suicide don't do it on the job but in a more normal, non-homicidal fashion.

Surely malfunction would be a more sensible explanation?
Or did they find the black box? I can't recall.

The black box was never recovered, IIRC.

it would have taken a host of unrelated malfunctions, to cripple so many systems that the plane would go off course so badly, be unable to communicate, and be unable to return to within any radar coverage anywhere.  It had to be either deliberate or nearly instantaneous.

Communications cease, plane disappears from ATC screens, takes a 120 degree left turn, reappears on Malaysian military radar over the Mallacca Straits, gets pinged by INMARSAT sattelite later on turning south.  No on the show proposed a series of mechanical failures that would have resulted in that sequence of events, and I can't think of one either.

Fair enough. I have half a mind to check the show, but three 90 minute episodes seem a bit too much.

Yi, if you like airplane crash documentaries check out Mayday, it's a Canadian show that is basically Forensic Files for plane crashes.  It's been running for 20 some odd years.

You want me to watch Canadian TV?  :(

I wouldn't say I have a thing for crash documentaries.  This one kept my attention because of the conspiracy theory angle and the mob of irrational relatives.

Not all of it sucks :P . although a lot of the ones that do suck are played a lot up here for "Canadian content" because it's cheaper.

Do you ever watch French language TV?  Blows my mind how in a place with so many hotties how few of them show up on TV.

Pet peeve watching Picard (which I have also seen in other shows/movies set in the future). When a character is shown as liking "oldie music" in sci-fi movies, they usually listen to oldie music from a 2023 (or whatever year the movie was made) standpoint. Would it be more fun if Picard vibed while listening to The Weeknd, whom by the 25th century is such an antique.

Though in defence of this. I think the odds are higher that music that has survived with a fanbase for the past 60 years might still be popular in 400, than a random artist who might well be forgotten in 5 years.

Though it does remind me of an awesome joke in Futurama of Run DMC (I think?) being classical music.

A more annoying trope I find is the number of people you get who are into 20th century stuff in general. You never see obsessives for the 18th century or the 22nd, its always the 20th (or now 21st I suppose)
