Now I need to find a way to convince my GF to go see Dunkirk...

Ghost in the shell (the Scarlett Johansson one). Pretty meh. Loads of eye-candy (not merely talking about Johansson's skintight outfits, some of the visuals are pretty great), but the story is bog-standard "evil corporation is evil" fare, and the script just goes through the motions of a Hollywood action movie, paying lip service to the original's existential dread.

Tell her it's the story of a family holiday to the beach gone wrong, when the neighbours show up uninvited.

Paprika- Discordant and hard to follow but fun nonetheless. Inception is for n00bs.

The Swiss Makers- The only Swiss movie ever. Kind of funny. Though really brings up my old thoughts about the value of the Swiss nation

That was a quick 180, FunkMonk.  You really are a pussy.

As suspected then, war movie for the assburger generation?.

It's not a war movie in the vein of The Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far, no. If you're looking for that you'll be disappointed. I don't even remember any of the characters's names (though that is the point of the film, honestly). And there are long stretches where there is no dialogue at all.

In other words, it was better when it was set in Guadalcanal and directed by Terrence Malick?

Well, Nick Nolte even beat Chuck Norris as best Texas Ranger on the silver screen, so no question about the Thin Red Line vs Dunkerque.

I've been watching Gypsy (on Netflix) the last few weeks. I don't know if I like it or hate it. I do know one thing though
therapists be fucked up
.

Tell her we get to see more women than all the Germans shown in Dunkirk. This is factually correct.

Plus, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy are in it ZOMG!!! Plus Tom Hardy and the guy who was Lieutenant Pullings in Master and Commander...

This is like SATC but set in 1940 France. Not Paris, but not that far away by the seaside. Instant giddiness.

Razgovory

Saw the latest episode of Rick and Morty.  Damn, that show got dark.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
