I fail to see what is wrong with Jacob, Lucas and Benjamin.

Hugely popluar names here every 10 or so years.

V
Benjamin is a bit bleh but I suppose every Benjamin I've ever known just got Ben, which is fine and normal.
Jacob...is a bit too biblical. I don't know any of my age but I'm pretty sure my mam mentioned having some in her school; apparently old fashioned names are very much in fashion.
Lucas is just weird for a first name in the UK. Any kid unfortunate enough to have such a name will forever be branded Star Wars kid.

Number 6 is the big stand out weird one for me.
Jackson is a surname. As a first name its just bizzare. I'm familiar with Pollock but artists usually have odd names.
I wonder how many Jackson's have a dad called Jack though...

Jacob and Lucas are perfectly normal names.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Well, the English version of Jacob is James - so Jacob should be less popular. Sorta like being English and naming your kid Piter instead of Peter.

If I didn't she'd probably pick a name off of that top ten list.  We must make a stand!  No Jackson, no Ethan, no Noah!

I believe we have settled on Matthew for a boy.  Girl is still unsettled.

Good Name.

You need a proper queen name. Marguerite maybe?

I tried to push Elizabeth, didn't get far.  Victoria is right out (my mom's name) or else I'd try that.   :bowler:

Shrug, I don't think anyone here connects Jakob with he bible, my youngest i named Jakob, a number of school and study buddies have been Jakobs, so is our own Jacob, who is Danish. There are at least three Benjamins and Lukas in my sons classes or years at school..

How did they get this list?  Is it some kind of poll or actual birth records?  I'd think the top of the list would be dominated by Hispanic names.

Yeah, I'm curious about that as well, they didn't have a source, so it's possible it's not even an American list. Well, after some online searching it does look a lot like the other American lists I'm seeing, but haven't seen this exact list.

The US census bureau has a list of name popularity.  It goes back as far as 1880, and can show as much as the top 1000 names.

In 1892, for example, the top ten names were:

Quote
1    John    Mary
2    William    Anna
3    James    Elizabeth
4    George    Margaret
5    Charles    Ruth
6    Frank    Florence
7    Joseph    Emma
8    Robert    Ethel
9    Harry    Helen
10    Henry    Clara

The 990th to 1000th most popular names were:

Quote
990     Duke    Letta
991     Eben    Libby
992     Ebert    Lilie
993     Edith    Love
994     Elden    Lular
995     Elige    Maurine
996     Ella            Maxie
997   Elwin    Millicent
998     Elzy    Mima
999     Encarnacion    Miranda
1000 Erick    Norine

It doesn't go beyond 2008 presently.

Oh, nice, the census list is much more reasonable.

Top 10 Names for 2008 Rank Male name Female name
1 Jacob Emma
2 Michael Isabella
3 Ethan Emily
4 Joshua Madison
5 Daniel Ava
6 Alexander Olivia
7 Anthony Sophia
8 William Abigail
9 Christopher Elizabeth
10 Matthew Chloe

Your 990-1000 list looks like it's alphabetized.
