Queston for the BrewNerds: do they just pump pure ethanol into beer to make malt liquor?

I think they put more sugar in the fermentation process.

The regionally omnipresent Yuengling Lager takes up a good portion of my beer drinking, and it clocks in with 4.4% ABV.

For really cheap drinking by the case, I prefer Piels (4.6%), National Bohemian (4.3%), or Schaefer (4.6%).

If I'm looking for a harrowing descent into drunken vice through cheap beer, I always choose Haffenreffer Private Stock, one of the only decent tasting malt liquors, which contains a relatively modest 6.9%

For going out on the town with nicer "microbrewed" beers, I honestly prefer the lower-alcohol one.  Yards' Brawler, which claims to be in the style of English mild ale, has 4.2%, and the O'Reilly's Stout only has 3.6%.  The Yards IPA, on the other hand, is also delicious, but packs a 7.0% punch.  I guess it's the best value drink if you want to be shitfaced and drinking a classy pint at the same time.   :bowler:

Oddly, I think I heard somewhere that Miller High Life has the highest ABV of all the standard cheap beers.  Which would explain why it always gives me headaches.  The packaging aesthetics are nice (except in the fall when they put out their hunting-themed bullshit), and I love the bottle shape, but it truly tastes like shit.

5.5, so pretty much, if this list is to be believed.

Hmm, yeah that is about a good 25% stronger than your standard American lager.  Certainly enough to be noticeable after a six-pack or three.

Too bad it tastes so horrible; and I drink Steel Reserve.

I mostly drink Guinness. So 4%. Though, I'm planning to take a Caribbean cruise for the sole purpose of obtaining the Foreign Extra at 7.5%

Nope, nobody does that.

Austrian standard beers have around 5% vol.

Stiegl (brewed in Salzburg and at least sold in Quebec and Sweden outside Austria according to the deposit notes on the cans)

My favourite restaurant in Stockholm is "Moldau" which is an Austrian restaurant specializing in their Wienerschnitzels. And they are awesome. I've several times had the pleasure of enjoying a Stiegl while treating myself to one.  :)

QuoteBeer Style: Russian Imperial Stout
Hop Variety: Magnum, German Hallertau
Malt Variety: Two-row barley, black, chocolate, carafa 111, cara 8, cara 45, honey malt
OG: 1.100   ABV: 11.03%   IBUs: 60
Color: Black
Availability: Seasonally produced from November through February. 22oz. bombers, 1/6BBL and 1/2BBL kegs.

Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

Very good. Very strong.
