PS3 vs XBOX: FIGHT

Ok, so I'm in a position to invest in a games console. I hear that the XBox has a better spread of gaming options.

However, I'm keen for it to also be an effective media centre. On this I am told the PS3 is superior.

voted ps3 even though I've used - neither. I like the media center more than the gaming centre as I'm not that hardcore on games.

Despite early promise much in the way of good games have yet to appear on PS3. The 360 has some alright ones on the other han.

I'd go for PS3 largely to be able to buy and play Blu-Ray.  You can also watch iplayer HD through your PS3, I know someone who downloaded the 'Life' episodes as they came out and said they were amazing.

Playing games over the interweb is free in the Ps3, while Microshit charges 50 bucks for a year of their membershit.

Free online games for ps3, can play movies from your computer through a network easily on the ps3, and great blu-ray player.

I own both consoles, so here's my two cents:

The PS3 has a very good multimedia system (and is a strong Blu-Ray player) and has a stronger CPU (which most games do not take advantage of). You can get specialized boxes [blu-ray or games] with a larger 250GB disk. The 'slim' version fixes the DTS/HD and TrueHD sound issues of the older PS3.

(the 'slideshow' mode that shows your images like a photo album is a hoot)

The Xbox, though weaker in media and having a lesser CPU, plays games better [and if you hook it to your tv via a VGA cable, shows a very crisp image] and has the best online component, as well as the achievement system. Get the Elite version, it comes with a 120GB hard disk and a HDMI connection.

Both have interesting exclusive games.

My choice:

Pure gaming - Xbox 360

For media - PS3.


Oh, one thing: the PS3 talks much about Hi-Def. But when you unbox it, you'll notice that you are provided only with SD cables. You'll then be informed by the manual that Hi-Def cables are 'sold separately'.

I don't have a PS3 but I used my brother's while home for Thanksgiving. I would say that the Xbox is your best bet for just gaming, but at least for me, playing Modern Warfare 2 on the Playstation's controller versus the Xbox's made me realize how superior the PS3's controller is. I wish I could plug one into my 360.

In short, I null vote.
