Carnival season started in Germany and Austria today at 11:11 am.

In Rhineland it means costume parties, culminating in the big parades in the Ash Wednesday Week.

In Austria the ball season is opened, ending with the high profile Opernball.

From November until February-March? That's a long carnival season.
