If NATO isn't over, it's not far from being over though.

If the US continues with it's downward spiral and with withdraws from the alliance, NATO will become more important.

Last week, during his visit, the German ambassador was asked if Germany would defend Canada if it was attacked.

Previous European countries had tipoed around the subject.  This time, he answered gleefully "yes" during the press conference, but refused to elaborate further in private with the journalist saying he did not answer "hypotheticals".

I believe the US will stay a nominal part of NATO, it just won't defend a member country that is attacked. As for the other nations, Russia is not dead yet.  A change in leadership could still salvage things there and create a new menace with chinese help.

It's not that NATO loses importance. It's more that a new type of union would take over, imho.
