So knock yourself out.   :P

No new years' resolutions for me, my only aim is to take an old bike I found at the back of the shed and do another 5,100 miles on it this year, that way it'll have I gone the distance of the Earths circumference on it.

That works out at only 14 miles an evening, each and everyday of 2026; I don't think it'll happen, I think I'm probably already 120-130 miles in the red. By the start of Spring I expect that to be more like a thousand miles plus.

Still walking as much as I can. No car to shop for groceries. It has a nice side effect of not buying stuff I do not need and saving money.

I need to get into some strength training and stretching as my arthritis is getting worse every 6 months. Even summers are bad now.

I've had the misfortune of watching some YouTube vids of fitness freaks. Do you really need all that protein? Do they not know you also need some slow carbs?
2026 might be the year I stop smoking for good.

Replacing the ongoing revalidation after my run in with guillain barre syndrome with some approximating regular exercise.  Be that running, swimming, rope skipping and general exercises.
And get rid of bit more kilos so I get to see the occasional appearance of 79.# rather than everything 8#.#.

Edit: effing butterfingers leading to typos

Duque de Bragança

My place is still on the 8th floor (9th for people in Trumpistan), no elevator, and I walk or use public transportation.

Pick-up football games in the Parisian streets have not been possible since the mid '90s given gentrification and other concerns, for me at least, so no spontaneous sport practice. :(

That's a excellent anecdote, everyday life that could feature in a film, as you say pity it's gone.

As you say, brisk walking and active transport participation is enough to keep us out of the morgue for a good while yet.  :)

Vacant lots, or wastelands (not Mad Max style), disappeared even earlier but I still remember them in the ´80s, bordering the suburbs, in my case.

Parks?

While Norway is far from perfect, we have these small five-a-side rinks or open grass fields in between in most towns and cities. A five-a-side game would, however, lead to my obituary having to be written.

Lots of complications. Parents object(ed) to to their children being exposed to such a prole / masculine / violent (sic) game.
In some cases, verboten, depending on the parks, but kids would always try to play. :P

Free places to play disappeared, yet parents keep on complaining about kids spending hours and hours behind screens, smart phones etc.

I remember playing in local stadia during holidays, when not used by schools, for free. Not possible since the mid or late '90s.

Five to five places are quite a business now, with some ethnical and religious complications coming to play or rather interfering in some neighbourhoods. As in, better play with your friends not strangers or foreigners or foreign-origin (unless they are your friends see above).

Look at the prices :

A two-digit figure each player for one hour. Great!

That's for futsal.

Getting in a school club, university or company club is much cheaper, if played regularly.
