"No liquor after 10" makes more sense than you think.  It basically shuts down nightclubs which can be a prime vector for spread.
I have an amazing alternative idea: they could just ban nightclubs then.

Then shut down nightclubs. Stopping stores from having dudes walk in and by a bottle of whiskey after an arbitrary time doesn't stop covid.

Also, it is bullshit to disadvantage vaccinated people because you don't have the courage to do anything about the real problem, which are the unvaccinated morons.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

What's a nightclub though?  How do you define it?

You already can't buy a bottle of whiskey after an arbitrary time - 2am.  This just moves that time up a bit.

Well, the government refuses to introduce vaccine passports (although some businesses like the hockey and football teams are requiring proof of vaccination), so what else are you going to do to get the morons vaccinated?

A place of rejection and humiliation.

So the defense is, "there is already a dumb arbitrary rule that is just less strict"?

Some ideas:

-No use of public facilities like airports, schools or public transport without vaccination (provided you are eligible)
-All public employees need to be vaccinated as a condition of employment
-No access to public benefits without vaccination
-Participation in public events requires vaccination (such as attending sporting events)

Seems like those steps would be more effective at preventing serious cases of covid than banning liquor sales after 10pm.

Like I said - this government refuses to introduce vaccine passports.

I would agree that requiring proof of vaccination in lots of situations would be preferable.  But if you take that off the table to start with, this is what you're left with.

There is something absurd about dealing with a minority of the population that doesn't want to get vaccinated by:

a) not putting pressure on them to get vaccinated through reasonable public health measures in place for other diseases (such as vaccine requirements to attend schools)
b) turning your state into a Southern Baptist utopia for everyone because that will keep that minority from certain activities that may spread the disease
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The city of Toronto has a definition that I find compelling and also seemingly has some kind of business license for nightclub. You can just suspend such a license by law I guess. Might be different out in the Albertan wilderness.

I concur. Measures like liquor bans are not based on any scientific insight and just discredit the useful measures. The pressure should be on the unvaccinated, not on the majority that is by now vaccinated.

It's like you guys have never heard of conservative governments. They are not interested in doing that.

It's more that I've been to plenty of places that do have seating for all, serve food, but also have a dancefloor and people dancing and mingling till close.

Zanza

If dancing and mingling is the risky behavior you want to suppress in order to fight Covid, why don't you do that? Does seem neither time dependent nor linked to alcohol sales. It's just as risky regarding virus transmission to dance and mingle sober at 8 am.

Liquor ban (even just the hard stuff) would not fly over here. Seems really dumb and/or puritanical.
Night-clubs were just closed and I am not sure they were fully allowed to open, though things may have changed with the Anti-Covid Pass (itself not limited to vaccinated people but including tested people).
