I mean obviously I want everybody who can safely be vaccinated to be vaccinated but you need to act professionally about it West Point.

Maybe the Military by its nature has a problem with half measures.

If you're an antivaxer, are you really officer material?

No shit. they should be ordered to vaccinate and if they refuse they should get kicked out.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Delta variant cases are now 60% of cases in Lisbon region. I think it's probably a consequence of Portugal being green listed so easy for British tourists and Portugues entry conditions being relatively easy for British tourists (only one pre-flight test). I think it was probably a mistake and I really think it's worth everyone in Europe holding on until, say, September when most people will be vaccinated before opening up to each other too much.

The UK should be quarantined, 28 days later-style.

Tamas

Leaving the island in August will be a challenge, by the looks of it.

I think by August it'll be fine

I think by then almost everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be and most of them will have had both doses.

I just think there's a very vulnerable point between where we (and Europe) are now and where we'll be by end of August/September.

Yeah but we'll still need Europe to react to that fact.

Yeah - although each country has their own entry procedures. This is, I think, a big risk for Europe opening itself up internally because there's no common rules on the external border.

It'll vary country to country - in Portugal you just needed a single pre-flight PCR test or proof of vaccination, I think Greece and France are the same. Most countries seem to have different procedures for citizens, presumably on the theory that they could be coming home/need to get back - but, obviously a virus doesn't really distinguish based on passport so this will create some risk.

... probably it's more along the lines of "we're willing to take a little more risk for our citizens compared to what we're willing to take on for non-citizens."

Some estimates are placing the delta variant at 40% over here and it hasn't caused an uptick of infenctions so far.

I think heat helps. I don't want to go all dorsey but I think we'll be fine.

Not sure whether this means anything - but I wonder if France actually will peak on vaccinations a little too early and probably too low to get herd immunity. Total doses given out every day is remaining stable, but the number of first doses has been falling since May which makes me wonder if they're (like the US) starting to run out of people who want the vaccine because supply doesn't seem like an issue:

Hopefully it's just a blip and I'm wrong but, especially given the anti-vaxx polling in France I slightly worry they'll end up like the US.

Yeah - that's fair. I was thinking more of at the very start of the pandemic the UK and I think most countries were chartering planes and sending out air forces to bring people home who might otherwise be stuck.
