Yeah, Montreal-NYC is a 50 minutes flight, 12 hours train ride & a 6 hour drive.

Are you able to afford an expensive plane ticket though? If you need a cheap plane ticket you are killing the planet.

Looks like Wales is opening up soon. May go down to visit my sister since going to proper abroad is out.
Still waiting on Ireland to open for a road trip though. Need to get that done before brekshit makes it complex.

How do you take a road trip without a car?

I have a car.

Poor.  :P

There no cheap plane ticket out of Montreal to anywhere. But True. I don't fly.

2hrs from Longueuil to Dorval on "normal" (if that is even a word around Montreal :P)
3hrs at P.E.T. airport before boarding.
30 minutes waiting in the plane.
50 minutes flight.
4hrs to disembark and pass through US customs, assuming the custom officers are in a good mood.
5hrs trying to get a taxi and reach your hotel.

Same on the come back, but it's 4hrs getting through Canada's customs swearing on your knees you did not bring back any alcohol or tobacco product from the US.

Yeah, I think I'll wait from some high speed rail service until I visit NYC :P
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

Whelp, one of my workers has a daughter that lives at home.  At her work (Planned Parenthood) she was possibly exposed to COVID.  I do not know the time frame, but she is being tested now.  If positive, the likelihood of us all being exposed through him has just increased many times over.

I will not know more until Monday.  If positive, we all get tests and likely they close down the Receiving Department until we all either die or are clean.

Brazil is melting down. 55k cases today.

US is back up to 33.5k cases today. Deaths are still relatively low, but as I posted a few days they're being under counted by several hundred every day.

Yeah there are several states in the US that are concerning. And they're seeing rises in positive cases as a % of tests as well as in absolutely numbers. So today 20% of Arizona's tests were positive (compared to 10% a fortnight ago), Florida had about 12% (compared to 6% two weeks ago) and Texas up from 5% to 9%. Hospitalisations are also up in Arizona and Texas (Florida doesn't release data).

Deaths and hospitalisations are a lagging indicator, but I think if you're up to 10-20% of tests coming back positive you've probably got fairly uncontrolled spread.

For example - we're all panicked about the UK opening too soon, we're getting around or under 1% of daily tests coming back positive.

Observing Brazil's numbers develop sure gives you a sense of helplessness.  Their right-wing imbecile leader probably couldn't help the spread any more if he tried, and now the death toll is staggering with no end in sight.

If Lower California were a state it would rank right up there with the other bad states in this.  We here in Upper California are doing better.

In news that will surely please Sheilbh  :P the Spanish government has decided to start sampling and testing sewage across the entire country (until now, only some city councils did it) as part of Cov-2 tracking strategy.

Also they finally updated the trackers and are finally offering much more data on contact tracing, testing, etc... Contact tracers number 1,500, which seems quite small, but 700 were hired during the last week, so hopefully it will keep increasing. So far, only 5% of close contacts tracked eventually developed Covid symptoms.
