Confusing news for my girlfriend. Hers is a school for autistic kids so may not be covered by the closures... Though it isn't spelled out.

polling on this is insane - there's a partisan gap in the US on whether to take coronavirus seriously or not (and whether coronavirus was made in a lab or is natural, weirdly). I don't think I've seen similar in any other country.

That will have consequences in how people are behaving and the risk they're taking with other people's health. It's a disgrace.

As said I've seen a lot of similar behaviour from British cunts. They really will be the death of us

I FOUND TOILET PAPER :)

Did you have to fight another desperate man for it in an arena? With knives made from human femurs?

I have a 12 rolls of TP & a bidet.

What I need is Tissues.

We're officially on mandatory telework for non-safety-critical roles after a Northrop Grumman employee at our facility showed symptoms and tested negative for flu. The covid test takes 48 hours so we won't know for certain until tomorrow.

I was already teleworking since Friday, but this could impact missions.

Some missions are probably safety-critical though, for example the ones resupplying the ISS. Not sure how they'll handle that.

So apparently Madrid ran out of ICU beds today. Still at least two weeks to go for the lockdown to take effect.

Sounds likely that'll still be open. I think special educational needs were one of the vulnerable groups. Apparently there's going to be a lengthy list in the next day or two (I saw on the News that this seems to be following the Dutch approach with a closure but long lists of exceptions).

Edit: Incidentally the British press continue to cover themselves in glory. Today we had questions about Brexit and whether Johnson thinks people who haven't followed the advice are "immoral". Who gives a fuck?

If the hacks can't get past the business as usual Westminster questions then they need to get out and make way for the specialist correspondents or these press conferences are pointless.

Separately posties have voted to strike, but apparently said they won't strike now and have instead volunteered to act as a new emergency service who can check up on the elderly and other people in quarantine etc. Which is nice.

I hope they are moving patients to nearby areas. They are not nearly as hard hit.

Merkel saying that Covid is the biggest challenge to Germany since WWII. Possibly something has been lost in translation but I hope she's aware that it's actually a good thing they failed that particular challenge...

Yes, it's a dog eat dog world. At times like this, I throw my socialist ideology out the window. ;)

Actually I got lucky. I went to my local restaurant for lunch, only to see it was closed, even for pick up. So there was a drugstore nearby and I thought I'd check. TP shelves were empty, but on my way out, one of the store clerks said to me, "you looking for toilet paper? Go to the back" I walked back to the delivery doors, and a guy was handing out one packgage (of 12) to each person.

You can use TP for tissues, just not the other way round.

Interestingly I was just thinking about that one. Could our modern economy and society stand up to ww2 conditions?
Imagining the UK in ww2 here rather than 1945 Germany of course. Even ignoring the bombing et al.... It would really mess things up.

Surely the Cold War was a bigger challenge. Ah well. I hope that this time Germany doesn't end up under tons of rubble.

Brits - if you get bored/want to help it looks like local councils have websites with links to groups you can volunteer with.

Edit: Also slightly alarming that apparently we're 3 weeks behind Italy (at the start of it escalating in Italy) in the country as a whole, but the London's about 3 weeks ahead of the rest of the country

Tele-volunteering?  I don't see how this works.
