Oh, and for the Americans getting a Trump corona check--if you don't want to have to pay it back, make sure you change your withholding so you don't get a tax return next year.

That's a misconception, based on the fact that people who qualified for a certain amount based on their 2018 reported income, will have some deducted later if they qualify for a lower amount based on their 2109 reported income.

Which is bullshit considering we didn't get to decide which tax return they applied.

Really interesting piece on the new tonight with a critical care specialist who was saing that the early lesson is coronavirus isn't like other respiratory viral conditions. So (and all of this chimes with that ICU head's memo I posted about a while ago) early intubation and aggressive ventilation is, in many cases, counter-productive. The oxygen levels are apparently low but the infection is mainly attacking the peripheries of the lung so it may not need aggressive ventilation, but a mask.

What's causing issues is the over-reaction of the immune system which means it's less of a striclty respiratory problem (though the body forms lots of blood clots round the periphery of the lungs) and more of a "whole body" issue - again I think of that ICU head saying they were starting to experience shortages of dialysis machines (not ventilators) because a surprisingly high number of patients were experiencing kidney issues.

Separately the UK Chief Science Advisor was speaking today and this may just be me reading into things but he seemed far more upbeat about their being a pharmaceutical way out of this (so, I assume, we develop effective treatments) than a vaccine.

Denmark is reopening some schools; Iceland and Sweden didn't shut them all down in the first place.

Something like 32 of the 50 states have less death rate as a percent of the population as Iceland and Sweden. Maybe those countries are making a mistake, but arguing that some schools should reopen shouldn't be beyond the acceptable limits of debate. The closemindedness of the American mind is a problem that extends far beyond Trumpland.
All of the European countries that are easing are re-opening primary schools - it seems to have very little impact on transmission and you can change the school day (because those schools are smaller and so are the classes). I don't think anyone's close to re-opening high schools yet because they're more complicated.

But, basically, kids and schools aren't a big risk factor with this illness, especially compared with, say, flu.
Let's bomb Russia!

Only about a couple million school kids dead in the US alone.  The conservative circle jerk of death just keeps getting worse.  Fuck you guys are morons.

I'd like to point out that most of us know this if fucking stupid.

Yes, well, you have already proven that you're going to do whatever the fuck you want, anyway, so why do you care what the government says?

I've been following the rules! The reason I'm so upset about the rules is that I'm stuck following them, and in so many ways they pointless and counterproductive.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Yes, interesting and some suggestion the emphasis on putting people on ventilators is sometimes counter-productive, as it's drying out the lungs too much and that's putting more pressure on patient's kidneys.

Getting a handle on the number of deaths seems a problem for many countries:

Deaths in the Netherlands in the week of April 6-12 were around 2,000 higher than in an average week, national statistics agency CBS said on Friday.

@ Meri, I know you do.  I should be more careful to not make broad generalizations about Americans.  My anger is fully focused on the fucktards.  I apologize if you and other of our sane population felt included in my rants.
