They locked up some dipshit preacher for encouraging his parishioners to ignore the social distancing and claiming that that his church has a machine that prevents people from getting the illness. The man is menace to society.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

This is getting kinda scary.  My brother thinks he may have, he sounds terrible, but his nitwit boyfriend thinks my brother is overreacting and won't let him go to the doctor.  I'm terrified I get it and spread to my mom.  She's over 60 and has diabetes and has no insurance.
Are you in physical contact with your brother?

Nope, he moved to Kansas in January.  I don't think he has insurance either.  I'm not sure about my sister (in Wisconsin) but I don't think so.  The only one who does have it is me, and I'm not really that important.

No, as much as anyone.

Good that you've not seen each other in weeks, over here the advice is strict, family members living in different places are treated as separate household and shouldn't socialise.

So tell him to fuck off it he attempt to see you or your mother.  :)

Excellent, glad to hear that.

One not so good stat from the government daily briefing, the number of corona-virus patients today, Monday is 9,000, exactly double what it was on Friday.

I am a bit worried about getting this.

I am overweight, and have chronic bronchitis, in that I get a nasty case of bronchitis just about once a year. Nasty meaning 3-4 weeks of bad coughing, and respiratory misery.

Seems like that would make me a pretty prime subject for a more severe outcome should I get sick.

The Minsky Moment

Several professional and personal acquaintances have come down with COVID-19.  Most are OK - but one casual professional acquaintance is on a vent in critical condition.  Survival prognosis unclear.  He is in his 30s and was otherwise healthy.
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

Your first hand evidence is will become more common place, perhaps then some people will realise it's not like the normal flu.

Have you considered entirely isolating yourself for the duration, difficult I know with family, but worth a try.
