Yeah apparently now infectious diseases and not dangerous at all but vaccinations are. Because what other logical conclusion could one draw after looking at human history?

Though what the hell even is "vaccine shedding"? I am scared to google it.

Their made-up theory that you can't actually cough out Covid, because that's fake, but you can cough out the illuminati vaccine, because that totally makes sense.

Apparently viral shedding is an incredibly rare thing, but it has been known to occur in vaccines that use a live virus.

The kicker though is no Covid-19 vaccines use a live virus.

Sometimes I think that we're doing the imbeciles disservice by not calling them out (in person anyway), and politely changing the subject.  Imbeciles by definition are not susceptible to being convinced in any case, but some may be susceptible to a more brute force approach of not wanting to be ostracized for believing something kooky.  Maybe it won't pull them out of the rabbit hole they're already in, but maybe that fear will keep them out of the next one.

That's a big tension at the heart of democratic regimes. Is democracy mutual indifference, or mutual living-togetherness. We generally grew up in an era where mutual indifference was heavily valorized - to the extent we often think it's the heart of democracy.

What we need is a virus tracking system.  If you don't want to have the vaccine that's find, but if you infect someone and they die as a result you get charged with manslaughter.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'm pretty sure that just causes people to double down on their kookiness.

Yeah - I mean in the UK there's been a huge reduction of vaccine hesitancy through targeted comms, using community leaders and people in those communities who are trusts (local doctors, the local NHS etc) to answer questions and build trust.

Sadly I'm not convinced that's an option in the US because the relevant community leaders (Trump, Fox) are not responsible and the questions are so fucking batshit and part of a total conspiracy worldview that it's difficult to address. I think that in the US it might not be possible to reach herd immunity and there may be specific communities that actually remain unprotected and those communities will see more infections, hospitalisations and deaths :(

The clips I've seen of Tucker Carlson especially are absolutely unbelievable on a national mainstream news network.
Let's bomb Russia!

my cousin, his wife, and two kids all got covid. so far nothing serious.

Rupert Murdoch is a cancer.

Valmy

Trump is torn between wanting to take 100% credit for the vaccine because of his operation warpspeed and not wanting to alienate his insane fans. It is a complicated balance.

The significant misunderstanding of what freedom of expression means played a big part.  People started believing it meant freedom from criticism.

The other significant misstep was the notion that the media (when it still held some influence) needed to provide equal time to opposing views, no matter how ridiculous, which played an important role in giving the climate change deniers a platform.

I don't think it was as much a "misstep" as it was that significant amounts of money was spent to ensure that factually incorrect or worse opposing views were given equal time for political reasons.

CDC says fully vaccinated can skip masks and social distancing, even indoors.

Valmy

Sweet. Hopefully my kids will be fully vaccinated before next school year starts.
