So Canada is fair game ? :P

I'm sorry but we've begun our next 4 years of Trump World. We will now need to analyze and discuss every syllable that comes from his lips or fingers.

Current political reality. Replace Howard Stern with Trump.

We blame editorial staff at news outlets for the non-stop barrage but we should perhaps spend more time looking in the mirror.

mongers

Its the challenge of four years of utter bullshit, what do you do?

To actively ignore it, which I'm seriously considering, means not posting in or reading many threads here. Much of the 'news'coverage will be suffused with Trump/Musk BS, so what are the options, withdraw from engagement with the world al a Will Self?

I don't know, seems a bit sad to give up having a interest in what's happening in the world, but possibly better for one's mental health?

And if he does do shit like a Greenland take over, it's still BS, but maybe that can't be ignored if it or the tariffs starts a process that tanks the world economy, something that rational one needs to be aware of and financially respond to

I didn't engage (read or comment) in any of the political threads after the election for I think most if not all of November. Nor did I look at political news coming out of the US - just scrolled on by. That worked out infinitely better for me as there really wasn't anything newsworthy happening on that front, just a lot of hot air.

But the world is more than Trump and Musk. Even Languish can be more than just those two. The world is not that small.

So because there is a non-zero chance that something could happen, we need to pay attention to all top headlines all the time? :hmm:

Well thanks for the reply Gaby, I shall now consider my response, maybe a touch of magical realism is required, for the next 4 years just pretend Josiah Bartlet is the president instead?

Although worth pointing out, as others have online, Pat Buchanan writing in 1990 calling for the US to annex Greenland and absorb most of Canada. The Panama Canal stuff is a long-standing complaint on parts of the right.

There's a tradition Trump comes from - arguably one with deeper, more long-established roots than America's post-war internationalism through Taft etc (Ike beating him at the convention in 1952 is a very significant moment). It's not necessarily just wanting to impress foreigners, but very American.

I am not convinced Trump is informed by a tradition predating 1952.

Crazy_Ivan80

Is Trump informed at all?

Personally, I will stick with consuming as little or as much as I find I have capacity or interest in. I'm not going to go full on into a dreamworld but I also know I don't need the full, unfiltered feed.

I'm also very glad that by chance happened to stopping using all social media 2 years ago. I can't imagine using Facebook now with some of their new changes to policy

Project 2025 is in full swing.  The old guard is leaving, people who could amount to any kind of opposition are leaving by themselves to avoid a "nasty battle".

Loyalists (aka, sycophants) will be put in place, everywhere, to do Trump and Vance bidding.  Everywhere, even in the army.

He is adopting Putin's rethoric right now.  It'll begin by high tariffs, and eventually, there will be a military operation in Mexico or Panama, Columbia-style.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

There risk in sabre-rattling though.  If you keep doing nothing but rattling your sabre eventually people will tune you out.  So you either need to make increasingly outrageous threats, or you have to start doing things.

Yes, I think this is the right approach. Read when in the mood.

He could easily be talking this way to then do something that is egregious but not as egregious to try to normalize the less extreme behavior.
