Been using an old 3speed mixte bike the last week, which is 'interesting' as in no getting out of the saddle, which I normally do a great deal, plus with only two gears, high and low, makes going up hills a challenge.  :P

That sounds masochistic. Anything, absolutely anything is better than those old gears, I'd prefer a singlespeed bike even for the hills.

Yeah, that would make more sense, but the bikes geometry is wrong for me anyway, just using it as a shopping/pub bike.

Weird getting up a significant hill, hand on the drops, arse slightly out of saddle (balance issues with it) and whilst working the pedals bracing the the opposite forearm against the side of the handle bar tops. Sort of works, but yes a single speed with say 70 gear inches would be way better.

Real life forced me to dial down the gym these past 9 months so gains had stalled, but I have been able to get back to it these past 2 months rather consistently. Just deadlifted my personal best (175kg) which is around 160% my bodyweight. It's always a rush of confidence when you're able to beat a previous record. I think I can easily add 10 kg to that too.

My body starts to hurt just thinking about deadlifting that heavy - not that I can even get close to that. Great job.

I ran the largest 10k in the world yesterday, 60k runners. :) My time was 49:30, which was a bit disappointing. What really disappointed me was that I ended up walking some the second half of the race.

Basically, i ran a really slow first mile as I tried to weave through the crowds, then fast 2nd and 3rd miles as I tried to make up for lost time, and then ran out of gas during the uphill fourth mile.

I'm planning on doing some mountaineering later this summer, so was hoping to get my cardio to a point I could be closer to 45 minutes.  While I ran a bad race and had to fight crowds, the reason I didn't get to 45 minutes was lack of fitness. And that is because of too much junk food, too little sleep, and too many skipped gym sessions.

Commuting by bike is once again working its magic. Down almost 20 pounds.  By the end of summer I may even be down to my varsity b-ball weight  :)

Still a great effort.  :)

Yeah, having to get to work makes for a good incentive, I miss that, pretty much restricting myself to evening rides nowadays.

You can definitely do it, but don't be overconfident because of a running equivalent calculators. For amateur runners, they are really generous when predicting the times of longer races. For point of comparison, I ran a 5k in 22:00 and a half marathon not long after was 1:53. Don't let up.

I've been really surprised with my progress and I'll keep going. Only problem is my running mate is going on a 4 week vacation so I'll have to find the will to run alone.

Excellent.

Well done and keep at it.

10k in under 55... more precisely 54:59. Another target met!
