I have no idea what you just said, but the overall vibe tells me you need to get off the internet a little.

As for Raz and Valmy, if this is the general mood of your compatriots (and yourselves) "we can't do anything", then you've truly turned into apathetic russians.

Georgians have been protesting for months. Euromaidan suffered outside for months in freezing temperatures, not to mention getting shot at and killed. Where the fuck is the youth of america?

The Maidan worked because the security services turned against the government.  I do not believe that would be a successful strategy in the US.

The chance of it being successful would still be infinitely higher than the strategy of doing nothing.

I think your expectations are out of order. Most Americans haven't yet been hit by policies that directly impact their lives. We are mainly talking direct impacts on migrants and gender minorities right now, right? I don't think anyone is going to be raising protest banners over something as abstract as data privacy.

I am not saying it applies to Valmy and Raz (I know it does not) but maybe one reason for the general apathy is that many people don't mind the results of Trump that much. Sure they'd prefer it without the insanity, but intimidating migrants into leaving, not hesitating to throw the US' weight around, forcefully reversing the "woke" stuff... many probably don't mind these too much. Bonus is they get to enjoy the results while maintaining the moral high ground while being aghast at the manchild at the helm.

Problem with having a long term democracy is that it's ingrained in you that you can "fix it" in 4 years.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

The youth is basically fine with this.  Remember, we voted for this.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I think it's the other way around.  Security services turned against the government because Maidan made it obvious the government was not legitimate.

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

I literally opened this thread to make a very similar post, what's happening now is the 2nd instalment of jan.6th, but this time there's no capital police to try and hold the line, that's now basically up to the lawyers and a few brave judges?

I mean it isn't that I am not willing to do something. It is that there is not anything obvious to do. Protesting just seems to make them more popular. Most of the people are either with Trump or at least not strongly against him.

QuoteGeorgians have been protesting for months. Euromaidan suffered outside for months in freezing temperatures, not to mention getting shot at and killed. Where the fuck is the youth of america?

We are not yet willing to be shot and killed while the rest of the country cheers, and maybe joins in the killing and gets hailed as heroes. Or protests while some rogue element decides to take advantage to loot and burn shit.

Public opinion has to turn against Trump and the government, beyond just the normal partisan stuff, for going out into the streets to have any impact. Protesting doesn't seem to change anybody's opinion, in fact sometimes it seems to turn public opinion against us.

So I don't know what there is to be done right now. Wait and see if Trump and Elon fuck it up so bad that public opinions turns against them? Well ok the public seems to love the assassination of CEOs so maybe if I went up to Elon and killed them they might love that. But don't have the opportunity to do that and even if I did...fuck man I got kids and stuff.

Back in the olden times there was this sense when a new administration got elected that everybody would cool it for a bit and see what they did before flipping out and attacking each other again. And when you consider how long and drawn out and unpleasant our Presidential elections can be, it was always a welcome break.

So there is this tradition of "let these assholes have their day" and at least a hope that after the election everybody gets a break for a bit.

There is this kind of sick sort of anti-Trump copium people are currently inhaling about showing social media posts by Trump supporters getting screwed by Trump's actions. I feel like it is kind of gross, but I guess if you post shit on the internet in an open forum people are welcome to it. But basically we need that on a vast scale. And surely not even Trump isn't that stupid...right?
