Canada too.

As I have repeated several times: de Gaulle was correct. The United States will eventually abandon Europe. Europe will need to see to its own defense sooner or later. If it wasn't Trump it would have been somebody else.

And Europe certainly shouldn't be relying on Russia or China.
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

You cannot go wrong just writing this down and re-reading it every day.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Europe was at its most dynamic and growth-oriented when they had to furnish their own defense. Maybe a little dash of military-industrial complex isn't so bad for a country.

Helps with innovation too.

Well above now, but what to spend it on is a different matter. The national service was made voluntary. I know we've spent a fair amount on Nammo and Kongsberg and that for some odd reason Norway's at the forefront in small missile development.

I remember seeing the M-72 tested as a drone weapon. And, Beeb can find his noose again, it blew me away.

I should add, Norway's armed forces have always been focused on defence, and we lack main battle tanks now, because we gave most to the Ukrainians.
While the JSF is still raising a few eyebrows, our old F-16s are now put to good use training Ukrainian pilots. And as fighter-bombers go, they are still useful.

One thing I always find a bit funny is that MiG is Norwegian slang for "piss".

We've basically had a long, brutal century of being shown the French are consistently right

Edit: Oh God, this is going to end with me advocating nuking Greenpeace...
Let's bomb Russia!

Admiral Yi

What really grinds my gears about NATO and 2% is the number of times folks over there have said "this time we really mean it."  It's insulting to be lied to that many times.

Said he who comes from a country with a Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump history.

My colleague was at laying the ground stone for a new arms factory just around the corner here yesterday. We are actually serious about this.

"TWO PERCENT? NO, LET'S GO ALL IN! FOUR!"

Not since WWII has Norway, nor Sweden, seen such increases in defence budgets. It almost feels like we're preparing for war.

60+ years is quite bit of time for a prediction to play out.  A lot of people could look pretty smart if they got that much of a cushion on their predictions.
