Unless some other politician just recently jumped ship I don't think there are any current independents in the House.

I read that amid the general deployment of US military and National Guard for the inauguration that they're also doing background checks on personnel for domestic terrorist sympathies.

That's not SOP?
Before Trump dismantled the FBI unit in charge of domestic terrorism, the FBI would have investigated this automatically, I guess, and tipped off the relevant authorities in the US military or National Guard.

Very integrating that trump did that.... It's like there was actual pre planning

QuoteArkansas senator Tom Cotton has said that he is against impeaching Donald Trump, arguing that the president cannot be impeached when he leaves office.

Cotton, a conservative hardliner and possible contender for the White House in 2024, issued a statement on Wednesday, after the House voted to impeach Trump for the second time.

The decision will now move to the Senate, and Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, said earlier on Wednesday that their trial of the president will not begin until after the Senate returns from a recess scheduled to end on January 19.

I think a lot of republican senators will take this convenient position.
