Here is a democratic congressman willing to say stuff on the record:

Quote
"I had a lot of conversations with my Republican colleagues last night and a couple of them broke down in tears, talking to me and saying they're afraid for their lives if they vote for this impeachment," said Crow....

"Some of my Republican colleagues are afraid of the consequences of an impeachment vote, but this Congress sends our young men and women to war every day," said Crow. "I'm not asking you to storm the beaches of Normandy, but only show a fraction of the courage we ask of our troops every day. Leadership is hard. It's time to impeach."...

Comments from another congressman, Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., support Crow's statements. He recently told CNBC that his life could be at risk after voting to uphold the Nov.3 election results. He was one of only nine freshman GOP lawmakers to do so.

"We realize that was a vote we cast that put our safety at risk and going forward, I am expecting there will likely be more political violence," said Meijer. "So my expectation and the expectation of some folks I'm talking to who are trying to vote our conscience on this, there will be folks that try to kill us, and that's something we have to grapple with every day."

I don't know whether or not a couple of republican congressmen broke down in tears last night telling a democratic congressman that they want to vote for impeachment but are too scared to do so.

I do find it odd that with congressmen/women even being open with the opposition on this stuff, it seems none has anonymously gone to a reporter and said he/she favors impeachment but is too scared to vote that way.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm about 90% sure the "anonymous source" in the article you mentioned were the congressmen/women themselves.

So did anyone Predict Trump would be impeached twice during his first term?

Which would be extremely relevant information! There are over 200 of them--it isn't like you would be identifying them by saying that!

I'll tell you, I'm really digging Trump's silence after he was kicked off most social media.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

This Democratic Congressman going on the record is *exactly* the same as the reporter going on the record.  They're both passing on what others have told them anonymously.

Reporters typically get two or more sources before they publish.

The GOP lawmakers have a point. A Republican, just like Napoleon, cannot die and win. Their only cause is their own career, they believe in nothing greater than themselves. Death would always mean a total loss.

If there are GOP lawmakers who vote/have voted based on fear for their lives, then it seems weird that they would admit to such an extreme dereliction of duty to another human. Unless they are desperately trying to play both sides until they know for sure which way the wind will blow, which I suppose makes some sense. In Sweden there is the concept of the "Brask note", named for Bishop Brask of the early 16th century, who (allegedly) deftly added a hidden disclaimer ("I am forced to do this") to his seal under an important political decision, and later brought it out to convince the following regime that he was loyal to them.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

What degree of confidence do you have in the congressman's statement? He is also asserting that two republican congresspeople emotionally broke down in his office and then the next day used their statements as a cudgel against them. It could be true. He also wouldn't be the first congressperson to distort events to his side's partisan advantage.

You're being a little schizo Fredo.  I thought you were holding up this Congressman as a model of how it should be done.

I'm on a bigger mission which is a one man crusade against the overuse of anonymous sources, a mission I will seek to accomplish entirely online, under a pseudonym which I originally created to conceal that I previously posted under another pseudonym which got banned due to a variety of disreputable conduct.

"I'm the most historic President ever. Everyone is saying that. I even read it on the internet. The idea that I am being impeached is fake news, pushed by an illegitimate, failing congress, led by Sleepy Joe."
