Apparently they arrested a whole 13 people. :lmfao:

Had they been black, they'd have shot more than that. Instead, selfie.

Yeah lots of abuse of white privilege going on today. There is zero doubt that would have gone differently if that was not a white mob.

And it's not like they were just random white people either. They were largely "very fine people".

QuotePentagon says Pence, not Trump, approved National Guard deployment

The acting secretary of defense, Christopher Miller, said in a statement that he discussed the deployment of National Guard troops to the Capitol with Mike Pence, not Donald Trump.

"Chairman Milley and I just spoke separately with the Vice President and with Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Senator Schumer and Representative Hoyer about the situation at the U.S. Capitol," Miller said in the statement.

"We have fully activated the D.C. National Guard to assist federal and local law enforcement as they work to peacefully address the situation. We are prepared to provide additional support as necessary and appropriate as requested by local authorities."

There were earlier reports that the Pentagon had initially denied the request for National Guard troops to be deployed, but reinforcements have now been sent to the Capitol.

So uh I guess Mike Pence is actually Acting President now.

Gun-toting very fine people.

In contrast, 14.000+ people were arrested in the protests after George Floyd's death.

There is a comparison to be made (apparently some of the Capitol cops were taking selfies with the protesters), but worth noting the George Floyd protests / riots took place in multiple cities over multiple nights, compared to one afternoon.

In Washington it was 400 in just one day, apparently. Against 13.

Well things go differently when the President of the United States is covering for you.

I get that everyone is just shitposting, but the capitol cops report to congress and aren't part of the executive branch.

You have to be fucking kidding me. There would have been a fucking division of infantry there if the President was opposed to that mob.

So it seems it was dumb luck that these guys were plainly inept at their job.

QuoteA law enforcement source has confirmed to CNN that pipe bombs were found at the headquarters for the DNC, RNC and grounds of the United States Capitol. All of the devices were safely detonated by the police.

They clearly support the President. Does it matter who they work for?

Well that is true as well.

But it is not like the Capitol Cops have enough man power to evacuate all the staff and congress while defending the entire perimeter. There needed to be extra security all around that building.

Solmyr

Basically, in the future a more competent Trump with similar support from the police and DoD will totally pull this off.

I'm honestly a bit confused by what is going on. The entirety of Congress - both houses -- plus the VP are in the capitol building. A group of ridiculous idiots storm the building and...take it over?

If a massive mobbed formed and started pushing onto white house grounds, I doubt they would succeed. There probably isn't the manpower to physically push people back at most moments in time, but it is well publicized that there are snipers and all sorts of protective agents defending the grounds. That is the deterrent factor that keeps people back and if push comes to shove they will be violently repulsed.

I'm not sure why a similar principal isn't in pace for the capitol building in a situation like this: maybe it is because we've had a few presidents assassinated but we don't have a history of folks taking out chunks of congressmen at a time. Maybe we will have just very different levels of security until something really bad happens.
