What makes you think Pence would do that?

The current cabinet are all yes-men to Trump. He designed it that way. As such, why would Pence keep them? Whatever you say about Pence, he's a government guy. He's going to want competence over sloven agreement. Ergo, he'll release Trump's people and put his own in their place.

Worse than that, some of them are women.  Can you imagine the furor if there were a crisis and Pence couldn't hold a cabinet meeting because his wife was out of town and couldn't attend?

The "Billy Graham" rule that Pence follows is not to be alone with a woman who is not his wife.  It's not a terrible idea.  I will tell you it's my policy to never interview female sex assault victims alone (although there's very specific dynamic at work there).

This is precisely the kind of thinking that makes social justice impossible:  making up arbitrary rules impacting only one sex, race, or whatever.  If there is a specific reason not to want to dine alone with a specific woman, then fine.  But arbitrary blanket rules handicap the objects of those rules, no matter your intent.

Wisdom of the rule aside, it would be quite odd for Pence to hold his cabinet meetings one-on-one.

Adhering to that rule means you think there's something wrong with you, or that there's something wrong with all women.

It's a rule that Evangelical men are supposed to follow, apparently.  I think it is clear where the "something wrong" abides.

You know, it would be more interesting if you'd actually say what you thought.

When it comes to sexual assault victims (who are almost invariably women) I just figure they might not be comfortable being alone with a strange man in a room.  So I figure it'll make her more comfortable to have a woman present as well.  And maybe most are comfortable, but I don't know who would be and who wouldn't be.

More generally... I'm not a follower of the "Billy Graham rule" (or as I see it now the "Mike Pence rule"), but I maintain it's not terrible.  It's all about appearances.  It's not about not meeting with a woman, or not mentoring a woman, or what not - it's about not being alone.  Or depending on the interpretation, not being alone when alcohol is present.

So which do you adhere to, BB? Something wrong with you, or you believe there's something wrong with all women?

You do interview sexual assault victims by yourself?  :hmm:

Exactly what kind of "retarded medieval shit" are we talking about?

The fact that I, as a male prosecutor, will make sure that a female is present when I interview female rape victims?  I'm not quite sure where the medieval ages come into that...

That part is sensible I guess. What I have an issue with is this crap:

QuoteThe "Billy Graham" rule that Pence follows is not to be alone with a woman who is not his wife.  It's not a terrible idea.
