Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

QuoteBill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffett are wealthier than poorest half of US

The three richest people in the US – Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffett – own as much wealth as the bottom half of the US population, or 160 million people.

Analysis of the wealth of America's richest people found that Gates, Bezos and Buffett were sitting on a combined $248.5bn (£190bn) fortune. The Institute for Policy Studies said the growing gap between rich and poor had created a "moral crisis".

And the moral of the crisis is:  you don't want to be poor?  Make more money.

This is a nice smoke screen to dismiss all societal issues.

Like in the UK: stagnating wages? Let's talk about how CEOs earn shitloads more money than dishwashers, and have a loud big talk about how CEO wages will need to be public.

As if, the downtrodden's lot would become any better if 20% of a boss' salary would have to be given to him in the form of bonuses or perks instead of straight-out cash.

QuoteThis past week the Washington Post reported allegations that Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for Senate in Alabama, initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old, and pursued three other teenage women, when he was in his thirties.

So his defense is that he tried to bang an 8th grader, but fortunately he struck out.  :lmfao:

This is a nice smoke screen to dismiss all societal issues.  The pretense that the richest are the richest because they are the most deserving, and that the poorest are the poorest because they are the least deserving, ignores the fact that the richest are the richest because they can buy enough politicians to make sure that the rules allow the rich to get even richer, while the working class get poorer.

Notice how in Germany, for instance, the rich are not ultra-rich and the workers are actually upper-middle-class?  And that China isn't taking away all the manufacturing jobs? That's because the workers have a voice.  Since they have a voice, they care.  And since they care, they produce high-quality work.  No one can afford to buy enough German politicians to tilt the system as unfairly in favor of the already-wealthy as is the case in the US (and UK, from what i can see).

lol no the factory workers in Germany are not upper middle class.

And executive salaries are not cause to any failures of the system. They might be symptoms, but not a single worker's situation will get better just because their boss starts earning less.

How about paying the workers more, then? That might make them better off.

If the boss has less ability to game the political system so he can continue to funnel all returns to his class only, then the problem will resolve itself over time.

Sadly, that is not happening, and in fact the problem is getting worse rather than better.
