And Americans generally.  What degradation.   :(

Electing either Senator should embarrass Michigan residents.

Actually there's an incumbent dem senator there who will run for reelection, so sadly we will be denied the entertainment of Rock vs. Mathers.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Nah, there are too many Americans to have to feel guilty about what happens in each individual state.

Yeah. I want free trade austerity and balanced budgets. Thing the right are now militantly against.

WTF?
What is so what-the-fuckish about what Valmy said?

As a right-winger, I can definitely say that I care about free trade and balanced budgets.

Eminem should run against Kid Rock for senate

It would be just like the Rap Olympics, but somehow even more embarrassing for all participants.

Embarassing for Kid Rock maybe, he doesn't have a 20th of Eminems lyrical talent. It would be a massacre.

Well, yes, rap battles are Shady's specialty; he did take the silver medal at the 1997 Rap Olympics, after all.  I guess that's no worse a way to pick a leader than based on how well he can deliver a dis tweet.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

You are one right-winger.  The right as a whole has been behind Donald Trump and the House Republicans, who believe in neither.  I do think the Senate Republicans remain broadly in favor of those issues, but they have no leadership whatsoever.

It is curious that the filthy-rich have so thoroughly dominated the Republican national agenda.  Six successive tax cuts for the rich should have proven by now that making the rich richer does not promote economic growth, but Trump and the House Republicans still are trying to implement the seventh, saying it will work this time, for sure.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Taxes are a necessary evil.  As I said to KAP years ago, I have a problem with people who don't think taxes are evil, but I also have a problem with people who don't think that they're necessary.

I have a real problem with people who think that taxes are "evil."  Evil is a hysterically over-wrought word to use for something that is efficient sometimes and inefficient at other times.  Taxes can be used for "evil" purposes (like poll taxes to keep the poor from voting) but they cannot be evil in and of themselves, any more than, say, monetary policy is evil in and of itself.

That's not an unreasonable opinion;  I can respect that even if I don't agree.
