What I can't figure out is why Mike Tomlin thought that staying in the locker room was a way of neither protesting nor standing for the anthem.  To me and I'd think most others, staying in the locker room during the anthem seems like a protest.

Also, why didn't he go to a 5-3 instead of a 5-2 on that last play?  Could have used that extra LB.

No personnel for it?
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

Odd to me it feels like refusing to support the protest / disallowing members of your team from supporting the protest.

That would be requiring them stand during the anthem-- what many teams' coaches and owners had been doing.

If you refused to exit the locker room you aren't having your players make a choice of whether to kneel or stand. So they don't really enter the fray as it were.

And then they kneel anyway...then what? Forfeit the game?

Pity. We almost had all this anthem nonsense behind us.

This is so annoying. There are only a few months of football season a year.  That seems a lot more interesting than whether people are standing or kneeling or whatever while a song is playing.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I still don't get how kneeling is disrespecting the flag.

It seems to me that avoiding conscription while your brethren are dying in an horrible war is disrespecting the flag and the country.
Booing a national anthem is lacking respect to the flag or the country, your own or the host.
Talking/shouting during the national anthem is lacking respect to the flag.  But kneeling?  Please.  It's a silent gesture of protest.  Warranted or not, it is their right, especially in a country where freedom of expression is king.

apparently some CFL players kneeled to during their last games, after Trump's speech.  I don't see the relevance, but I don't care either.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

Many people take what other people do during these patriotic displays very seriously. They take it extremely personally as if you dug up their WWII veteran grandfather and pissed on him. For many this is an unforgivable sin.

I do not really understand it fully myself.

Yeah we did this all last season. It had finally died down and we were just talking football. Hardly anybody was still kneeling for the anthem. But then the President decided to focus on this non-issue. Trump's 'leadership' in action.

Trump does have a kind of mad genius about him though.  Notice how everyone's talking about the flag, and not the fact that members of his administration used private emails for government business?

When Trump's administration consists of one scandal/fubar after another it doesn't take a genius to see you need continuous distractions.

Or, you know, the disaster in the Caribbean. But fuck the lives of our citizens, let's talk about how NFL players are saluting flags.

Or the disaster that is obamacare repeal / health care reform. Or the failure to start building the wall. Or just about anything else.
