If you refused to exit the locker room you aren't having your players make a choice of whether to kneel or stand. So they don't really enter the fray as it were.

Up until a few years ago, the norm was for the teams to stay in the locker rooms until after the anthem, except on special occasions and IIRC postseason games.

Yep 2009

Okay, where are you guys all hearing this?  HuffPo?  Vox?  Daily Kos?  Players have been on the field before and during the anthem about as far back as I can remember.  And yes, I can remember before 2009.  It was only for primetime games that players were kept in the locker room during the anthem prior to 2009.

The source is apparently Brian Macarthy, spokesperson for the NFL.

Except that there is no quote from Brian McCarthy actually saying this, and a quote from him saying something that strongly implies the opposite.  No one else has produced evidence that players didn't stand on the sidelines for the anthem until 2009, and this appears to be an example of your cited author falling for an internet meme (GF apparently believed the same bumper sticker, but it isn't true).

Also untrue is that the practice was paid for by the military.  Another bumper sticker lie that people fell for.

I was not commenting on the practice of paid patriotism, but on the change concerning whether or not the players were present on the field for the anthem in 2009 - which is what derspeiss was doubting. I was providing the info re: the source. "My author" didn't fall for an internet meme. In August 2016, he reached out for McCarthy for a comment. I imagine it is possible he made it up, or distorted his words, but that's all we have, and it is the story above that is being reposted everywhere. Indeed, your politifact link indirectly quotes MCarthy with the same information as well, despite not indicating the source.

QuoteKushner registered to vote in New York as a female

Presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is registered as a female voter in New York, according to public records.

Registration records show that when Kushner, who is married to first daughter Ivanka Ivanka, registered to vote in 2009, he apparently checked a box classifying his gender as a female.

Democratic opposition research group American Bridge first spotted the error.

"Kushner can't even fill out the most basic paperwork without screwing it up, so it's a mystery why anyone thinks he's somehow going to bring peace to the Middle East," Brad Bainum, a spokesperson for the group, told Wired about the mistake. "Would anyone but the president's son-in-law still have a West Wing job after repeated disclosure errors and a botched a security clearance form?"

Kushner, who has a vast portfolio of issues at the White House, has had to amend his federal security clearance forms multiple times to include meetings with foreign contacts.

He told congressional investigators that the mistakes have been due to a "miscommunication" with his assistant.

Prior to 2009, his New Jersey voter registration noted his gender as "unknown."

The Politifact article notes that players were on the sidelines for the anthems well before 2009 - that it was just prime-time games where the players didn't stand on the sideline for the anthem, for TV reasons.  It notes that McCarthy said that, in 2009, the rule became true for prime-time games as well.  That matches with the sliver of McCarthy directly quoted by Curran, but contrary to what Curran paraphrases McCarthy as saying.  The combination tells me that Curran is engaged in presenting alternate facts (and explains that very awkward quotation wherein Curran avoids quoting McCarthy saying what Curran claims he was saying, and then includes a quote that is irrelevant to the claim).

I don't think it a coincidence that the same "alternate facts" Curran is spewing are identical to the "alternate facts" in the meme.  It is possible, of course, that Curran's lie is the source of the meme, rather than a result.

My source was comments made on Mike and Mike in the Morning by Mike Golic and one of their guests, in which Golic acknowledged that behavior during the national anthem wasn't particularly an issue when he played, because the players "usually" were still in the locker room during the anthem.  The 2009 date came from the guest.

QuoteNorth Korea apparently is so confused by President Donald Trump that it's asking US experts for help understanding him.

According to a Washington Post report on Tuesday, government officials have been soliciting, via various back channels, US experts with ties to the Republican Party for informal talks.

"Their number-one concern is Trump," an unnamed analyst told Anna Fifield, the newspaper's Tokyo bureau chief.

"They can't figure him out."

Hopefully they don't read Languish.  :hmm:
