In any case, it appears that this was not the straw to break the camel's back and the GOP is still sticking with Trump. No biggie.

The strategy of reinforcing bad behavior has really worked wonders so far . . . the plan seems to be to keep a low profile and hope Mueller comes up with something that can take him out.

BTW its interesting to see how the populists' radicalisation of politics is working out.

Here on this forum we have garbon being even more bitchy than usual every time what he considers canon is being referred to disrespectfully, and we have Jacob and Solmyr howling for nazi blood, ready to turn streets into battlefields because of a couple of hundred losers posering in a country of more than 300 million.
You went too far the other way.  The issue is not with the couple of hundred of losers.  The issue is with the tens of millions of closeted fascists that are getting emboldened.  Sometimes you need a particular moment to serve as a catalyst for such realization.

The Minsky Moment

DG is right this is about probing the boundaries of acceptable discourse and nudging Overton windows.  There's a continuum from authoritarian nationalists (like Orban or K in Poland) to soft fascists (like Erdogan or more extreme Putin) to the outright neo-Nazis.  The latter may be very small but they are the tip of the authoritarian pyramid.  The base of that pyramid is the 50% of GOP voters who say they would be OK if Trump postponed the 2020 elections to root out "voter fraud."  That's tens of millions.  Above them are the millions that lap up the "deep state" conspiracy theories (Bannon, Hannity)- these are the soft fascists in waiting.  That's the crowd that Trump is lifeguard whistling to with his "Alt-left" and "all sides to blame" and "plenty of good people" crap.

Some people are forgetting there has always been a tangible connection between right-wing activism and the police.  But the Euroweenie Jewhaters already knew that.

You haven't even been trying to pretend to be in the closet for some time.

It's complicated.  You're haven't been closeted for quite some time, but you haven't yet come out either.  You keep saying things in a way that always leave some barely plausible deniability.  Cowardly, maybe?
