For people not motivated by money, they sure have managed to amass a rather astounding amount of it.

I just want to point out the outsider we have in office right now (who is so rich he supposedly would be incorruptible), and the one we elected in 2008, are doing pretty shady stuff right now as well. It is not the people so much as the system. Finding people seemingly untainted is not doing much good. So what is your recommendation?

Basically what is it exactly are you trying to accomplish in this discussion? What are you hoping I take away here? Because you seem very passionately determined that I be convinced of something and I cannot figure it out.

The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!

So he seriously considers to shutdown his own administration if he doesn't get money for his silly policies. That must be first.

I don't understand how shutting down the government is going to fix any messes.
Maybe it makes more sense when you have the tea party view that the federal government should be reduced size and some of the federal agencies and programs should be abolished outright. Just shutting down might be the closest they can get to that against a Congress that is willing to fund the status quo.

Maybe. I guess my problem is I assume his thoughts are all related to each other so I thought he was saying a shutdown would solve the political mess.

I think it's just him signaling to the GOP that he'd rather have a shutdown than caving in to Dem demands again.

Trump's twitter decryption is the Kremlinology of 2017.  :hmm:

Of course it is, what with the fake news reporting how the continuing resolution was far from a bigly win, and how they ran an end-around his politically inexperienced crew of asschimps.

Not really.  More like Kindergartenology.  It's all fingerpaints and piss, but there's an incredibly simple pattern to it all.

I guess we should just go back to the time when the parties simply chose the nominee instead of having primaries.  Much less corrupt.
do it the Canadian way: be governed by a foreign monarch, elect the most popular person loyal to that monarch and his/her representative in the country, give him/he all the power to run the country alone, pretend you're less corrupt than your neighbours.  it works wonder for the people.

Ahem... Minority Leader.

I must have missed the thread where everyone was bagging on Cantor.

Well, we sure as heck wouldn't have Trump as President now if it had been up to the Republican party establishment,

Of course you are less corrupt, you have less money to be corrupted by.

Did Trudeau really win because the Royals liked him?

She's not foreign, she's the queen of Canada who just so happens to be the queen of Britain and a bunch of other countries.

The royals and their representitives like Harper more. They liked him so much  they prorogued the government so that he wouldn't be voted out.

Also he does in fact not have all the power, nor does he run the country alone.

Better let Parliament know someone is running the country "alone"

Don't engage Viper about his fixation about our Head of State. Like if electing our own figured head president would be better & cheaper.
