It used to long be a tradition in the Senate that you would vote against a nominee, but not filibuster the nomination.

RIght now I don't think the Republicans are going to take any political heat for doing away with the filibuster.  Maybe if there is a second USSC vacancy, and the candidate is far more flawed than Gorsuch, the Republicans would pay a political price.

I think the hope is that people will get tired of heavy handed Republican rule. Particular when it does get them the outcomes that Trump promised.

Used to be a tradition when a President forwarded a USSC nominee, the Senate didn't ignore it for a year and pretend it never happened.  So there's a first time for everything, now isn't there.
