No tax cut for you then!

I already have like a $96,000 exemption for US taxes and the Korean taxes I paid last year were like 6% of my income.

What's going on with Tim?  Isn't he traditionally the sort of hardcore jingo that would fall for Trump hook, line and sinker?

I have always been strongly for civil liberties. Economically I have moved quite leftward over the years. Foreign policy has stayed the same.

And no, apparently he's getting married to a very pretty young lady. :)
That's good.  A man should marry, I always say.

Trump administration 'considering military force' among measures to combat North Korea threat

By Rob Crilly,  New York
3 March 2017 • 2:52am

A White House review of its North Korea policies includes weighing the use of a pre-emptive military strike or regime change if the secretive regime appears close to testing an intercontinental ballistic missile, according to reports.

Donald Trump, the US president, has struck a tough stance on Pyongyang and promised to ensure that leader Kim Jong-un's armed forces are never able to launch an ICBM.

The review comes at a time of heightened tension. North Korea claims it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the US and its operatives are accused of using VX nerve agent to murder the half-brother of the dictator in Malaysia.

Regional experts said the review was a routine exercise to examine all possible actions and did not increase the likelihood of the sort of military clash that could spark a nuclear confrontation.

The review was announced soon after Mr Trump came to power and is headed by KT McFarland, deputy National Security Adviser, who has asked for a range of proposals as part of a wide-ranging re-examination of policy.

American officials have highlighted the use of military options during recent meetings with allies, according to sources quoted by The Wall Street Journal.

Scott Snyder, director of the programme on US-Korea Policy at the council on foreign relations, said the review would take in everything from negotiation and acquiescence to a pre-emptive strike.

"Having said that, there's no question that over the course of the past year, as North Korea has progressed in the direction of having a direct strike capability on the United States, we have seen a more thorough examination of possible options on the coercion end of the spectrum," he said.

Ri Tong-il, the former North Korean deputy ambassador to the United Nations, said he probably died of a heart attack caused by a history of heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

He also said it would have been impossible for anyone to use such a deadly poison without harming themselves and passers-by.

Malaysian officials insist two women smeared the banned chemical weapon on Kim's face at Kuala Lumpur airport on February 13. Kim died within 20 minutes.

In a sign of the growing diplomatic fall-out from the killing, the Malaysia government said it was ending visa-free entry for North Korean travellers.

Earlier on Thursday, Malaysian authorities said they would release a North Korean man, Ri Jong-chol, from custodyon Friday because of a lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, a North Korean official denied reports the regime used VX nerve agent to assassinate Kim Jong-nam, an occasional critic of his family's grip on the country since being exiled in 2003.

what a dumb decision on her part. people can *always* scrounge up $500 through austerity measures.

again, I hate it, but he's right: it's not an unexpected bill.

it's true. she knew it was going to expire, and she could have saved. hell, she could have couch surfed and worked three jobs starting in november and saved that much. eat rice and beans, etc. this wasn't saving for retirement, this was saving for her staying in the country she apparently wanted to continue residing in.

she didn't do that, and if she stops blaming other people, she may very well regret her fuckup for the rest of her life.

Spoken like a man who's never had to scrape by.

Max was illegal for 16 months because we couldn't scrape up the $1800 (fees plus legal costs) we needed to apply for his green card. When it came time to reapply for his green card two years later, to the tune of another $550, we nearly didn't make the deadline because it was so hard to pull it together. Another two years, and we had to come up with another $750 for his actual citizenship.

And every time, it was a nightmare. We were getting by as a family of six on $22k/year plus child support. I assure you, it's not that easy.
why is it so damn expensive?  Max was a student, don't they give some kind of rebate to cover that?

QuoteAs Trump heads south, so does Russian spy ship

Jim Hayward
- Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

With Donald Trump scheduled to arrive in Palm Beach County on Friday, U.S. officials are reportedly keeping an eye on a Russian spy ship that was spotted about 150 miles off Florida heading toward the Caribbean on Thursday, according to Fox News.

It's the same ship, the Viktor Leonov, that was seen "loitering" off the Virginia coast last month, Fox News says. It's not unusual for such ships to patrol in international waters around the world, according to New York magazine.

The same ship was in Havana Harbor in January 2015 when relations with Cuba were eased. Earlier this year, it made a stop in Jamaica after leaving its home port near Norway around New Year's Day, the Fox News story says.

The Victor Leonov is equipped to intercept communications and analyze U.S. Navy sonar capability, but that's "similar to operations we do around the world," a Pentagon spokesman said last month.

The White House has not confirmed when Trump will arrive at Palm Beach International Airport, though a temporary FAA flight restriction over Palm Beach County begins at 3:30 p.m.

I'll have to agree with Lacroix and Derspiess here.  She knew it was coming, she had time to raise the cash.

That the fee is too high is another matter entirely.

That fee isn't including her lawyers fees on top of it. Those usually run around $1000-$1500 per paper filing.
gee, ok, that's not something one can easily come by.  I retract my statement then.  I thought it was more of a formality than anything else.

during the campaing, he said he would stop defending SK because it costed too much.

So, make up your mind Tim: no defense or a strong offense?  In either way, you might be better off emigrating to Australia for a little while...

I would prefer a strong defense. If I had to choose between the two I guess I would no defense since the ROK army is one of the strongest in the world.
