I've read such blackouts are somewhat common for new administrations

They say so in the article, in fact, but mention that this one has been particulary swift and over-reaching.

I think so. some counties have voter registration, but those counties are required to provide the option to vote by affidavit ("I swear I live here"). until last year, I had never voted, so I can't confirm exactly how it works in the non-voter registration counties

(edit) BTW, my question earlier today ITT re shaved costs was meant for you (but also anyone who knew enough to answer it)

maybe so, but from how this has been reported and discussed in some circles, it makes it sound like it's this crazy thing. naturally, trump isn't going to delay making america great again

If he wanted to do something to insure his re-election via a change in rules, how would he proceed about it since it's a State's responsibility?

He couldn't. His investigation would have to pressure the States into action if it found anything I presume.
I would presume the investigation will find something.  Some nefarious plot by the Democrats, then he has most of the Democrats in Congress and the Republicans against Trump arrested.  ;)

No, seriously, I think his investigation will find something.  Something not true, but presented as truth, like the crowd at his inauguration or his love for the CIA.

He has allies in some States and not many vocal opponents in Republican controlled States.

If he wants to consolidate power bit by bit, like Chavez, Erdogan or Putin, how would he go about it?

Well yeah it is probably bad news.

We will see. I was just clarifying the constitutional arrangement.

Well the article quotes says both of those things. That the way it is being done is crazy and unprecedented.

"finding something" is different than acting on it. sure, he can find anything he wants. but he has to present something to the courts if he wants criminal charges. if he wants the legislature to act on it, I think it really depends on what it is. not many there like trump

I'm sure it does say that

I would be surprised if China did not have mandatory IDs but they also do not have things like voting.
Well, they do vote:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_the_People's_Republic_of_China

It's a free election, anyone can be elected.  So long as the Communist Party approves of the candidate.
Elections in the People's Republic of China

You should familiarize yourself with this system.  I suspect before long something similar will be implemented in the US ;)

I don't know what shaved costs means.  ITT is International Telephone and Telegraph?

I'm not presuming anything about the courts.

I am presuming a lot about State and Federal Republican legislators.  These people have power, and has we have seen, they don't like letting it go without a fight.

I am just wondering what he could do to insure a Republican dominance stays the way it is withing a limited time frame, step by step.  He's good at bullying, pressuring people so they cave in, so what are we looking at?

I don't think that he could get his democrat opponents arrested on trumped up charges, but he could certainly convince his new friends inside the GOP to make certain changes, more drastic than requiring a photo ID.

It is a period of civil war. Rebel park agents, striking from a hidden Twitter account, have won their first victory against the evil Trump Empire.

in this thread. but, pulled it up

Quoteso, could these acts shaving off US expenses amount to enough to prevent increasing the deficit if he, for example, lowers taxes on corporations?

I applaud the sentiment but most of those tweets are pretty juvenile.  Is there something about the tweet media form that pushes users towards imbecility?
