The Minsky Moment

Icahn, Ross, Mnuchin, Cohn - all wall street money guys.  As is Kudlow who is rumored for CEA - or at least he plays one on TV which is good enough in Trumpland.  Plus the SecArmy (!) who is another Wall Street guy.

Haven't you heard? He's dropped the whole "drain the swamp" thing. It was a catchy slogan, and people loved it, just love it!, but you know, it's played out now. He's moved on.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

Carl Icahn as regulatory advisor still leaves me flabbergasted. Yep, he'll bring back all those rust belt manufacturing jobs. Allright.  :hmm:

He's just picking his poker buddies.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Clarified.  He's just awful.
But this is the administration that is putting the likes of Rick Perry and Ben Carson into cabinet positions so expectations are low in the extreme.

We shouldn't overhype the Icahn thing.  "Special Advisor on Regulation" is a lunch date and a photo op.

It's impossible to tell.  In a normal administration certainly.  In the court of Donald, the informal advisor who has the emperor's ear may be more powerful.  I suspect it won't amount to much in this case but more because Icahn probably has more important things to do.

These aren't poker buddies.  These are people he has always craved acceptance from, men he has always wanted to be.

Good call.

Funny thing is that Icahn took over one of the Trump casinos in Atlantic City and few months back shut the whole thing down.  Huge job losses and were talking AC so it's not like there is work down the street.

Exactly. If there were some other, serious appointments being made as well, you can not worry about a few kooks here and there - he is throwing some bones out, paying some debts.

But it is kooks all the way down.

Astute observation. If you haven't, you should read Alan Taylor's William Cooper's Town. I have a feeling the politics of the Early Republic may provide some insight into the years to come.
