So much of what is "wrong" with the US system is a figment of our myth of sovereign states coming together.

All contracts are figments of the myth that there is such a thing as a contract.  The mythical US Constitution is a figment of the myth that there were British colonies that rebelled against a mythical Great Britain and declared themselves sovereign states, and subsequently has representatives meet at a mythical convention and propose the myth  that would form a governmental compact between the mythical states.

This simply shows that some myths are real and some figments exist outside the imagination.

Appointed; I learned from NPR that he'll need a special waiver from Congress in order to be confirmed, since he left the military less than seven years ago and is being appointed to a senior position.  Democrats could hypothetically block that waiver with a filibuster.
