I do feel like pointing out that in a lot of ways this isn't new though - boarder guards were always able to search your phone / laptop, and if you didn't like it, you didn't have to enter.  In Yukon (which wasn't exactly a busy point of entry to Canada) we would periodically pick up guys with kiddie porn on their laptops entering the country.

What's new is asking for social media passwords, but it's just a mild extension of what already takes place.

10 REAL quatloos says it gets yanked.

You're on.

The only "innovation" here is in publicizing their intent to do so.  Which I guess has the effect of discouraging visitors from certain areas (but certainly has the effect of discouraging tourism to the US).

How do you determine it's kiddie porn?

I can easily see that some anime shows can be considered "kiddie porn" by some

I usually think twice about the kind of anime shows that I put in my laptop when I travel.

Death rays shot out of 9 year old vaginas should probably stay home.

Asking for a friend, right?  ;)

It's up to a judge at the end of the day.  Standard, as always, is proof beyond a reasonable doubt.  So sexually explicit photos of a girl who may or may not be under 18?  Pass.  Sexually explicit photos of a girl who is obviously under 18?  Charged.

Just curious as to the level of investigation, forensics specialists and chain of custody procedures that are at the airport that allow you to eyeball evidence. Dickhead.

Well that never happens, but scantily clad underage girls grabbing each other's boobs does happen

Dude, these were files investigated by CBSA at Beaver Creek, Yukon land crossing.  Not exactly a hotbed of high tech investigative techniques!

They pretty much just opened a laptop and snooped around.
