You have to admit as an outsider it is pretty hard to like a team with Pepe and Ronaldo in it, that also fail to win a single game, plays the most boring matches of the tournament (minus the one against Hungary) and yet finds itself in the semis.

Wrong. Game won against Croatia (1-0 remember?) Portugal used to lose games this way. Could it be the reason of the butt hurt? People like their clichés.
Where does this rule of 90 min only to win comes from?     also, vs Poland in the penalty kicks.
Most Boring games? Portugal-Iceland was far from boring. Well, it's not like the other teams really made an effort, namely Austria, Hungary being the exception for 60 min or so, Portugal had a lot of shots. The other games most boring? Did you watch France-Switzerland, England Slovakia ? Not to mention a penalty "forgotten" by the referee against Poland and so on. Croatia was supposed to completely destroy a weak defense as "shown" by the Hungary-Portugal game, best Ronaldo (overcooked by this RM time) game yet. Did the the so-called outsider forget it too?
Besides, "most boring games" should please you and remind you of great Mourinho times at Chelsky. 

As for Pepe and Ronaldo we have been through this before. Haters gonna hate. Giroud and Müller are far worse and draw no objection. In the big ego area, Zlatan is pretty good though he's not as mean as the previous two. In the mean time, Pepe did again a hell of match. Plus football is a team sport, so there are players like Renato Sanches, youngest player to score at the Euro, beating the record of some guy called Cristiano Ronaldo and a very good save by Rui Patricio.

As for "outsiders", well band-wagoning, fair weather and sport history-ignoring fans plus some people in the French press seem to be pretty pissed off. Fearing Italia '82? That's a bit exaggerated IMO.

Giroud and Müller are far worse

We'll probably never agree on that, but we don't have to. Ronaldo is far better than either of those (this we can agree on I think) so of course he's going to draw more objection when he's behaving like a douche.

As for Pepe, he's just out-of-this-world-dickish.
