So basically they're doing the populist right's stupid thing and calling being economically left wing 'liberal' :bleeding:
Bloody Americanisation.

Well, hello, liberal has been the "economically wrong/evil" marker for both the far right and the far left for quite a while now.
I think it's slightly different though - in my online experience in the UK when the right says "liberal" they mean socially liberal (metropolitan elites, quaffing avocadoes etc) when the left says liberal they mean economically liberal/centrist (bloody Blairites accepting the premises of the marketisation and financialisation of our economy, corporations commodifying rainbow products etc).

In a way they're both right :)

At least when the far left say it they tend to to be accusing people of being actual liberals.
When the far right say it they just mean left-wing.

Semantics, the point is that the world seems happy to unite in hating on liberals. :P

I don't hate liberals.  Liberals are another matter, though.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Yep. Although I wasn't sure if this would be a bit like ATM fees where basically no bank wants to go first - so far my provider is still no roaming charges in Europe

Roaming charges are an obsolete scam by cell phone carriers...especially when there isn't any "borrowing" of another carrier's network.

Yes, I am looking at you EE/Deutsch Telekom/TMobile.  :glare:

I am fairly certain the mobile providers made a deal in the background and the rest will follow suit, otherwise this would be a very silly move from EE.

In the UK context nation/nationality does not mean ethnic group or culture. It has more of that overtone for Englishness/Britishness, but even there that's declining. None of them are ethnic identifiers, they're civic nationalities like Irishness or Frenchness.

Ok look I have never been to Ireland but there is no fucking way Frenchness has no cultural component to it.

That would be a massive competition law violation.

Ever get the impression that we don't have our top brains working on brexit?

Josquius

They don't seem to get that stuff they say and print for domestic consumption is also seen by people in Europe.
Minor bits pass under the radar easily enough. But when they start screaming about breaking deals, war with Spain and other nonsense then you kind of have to expect Europe to be a bit interested.

So odd this Matt Hancock thing.

I bet while giving pandemic contracts to buddies didn't destroy him, this will.
