November is a month you are meant to be hibernating and just hydrating in Scandinavia. It is the worst month of the year.

By the way, those cold years in the 70s were great for making snow forts and having snowball fights during elementary school recess.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Like you have snow in Vancouver, pfft.
:P

I remember, sometime in the 80s, there were a series of snow storm, there ice storm, I think the school were I was at the time closed for nearly two weeks.  The less fun part as I remember was that we were living on a trailer on a construction site, so with no electricity, during the week, we had to move to one of my dad's employee's home to sleep there as we had no way of heating our trailer.

I also remember that back home, where I live now, we could make some big snow forts too.  And there was a huge hole in the ground, because just before my dad bought the land next to the house, the owner had dug it to build what would be his house.  So dad, not wanting a new neighbour right behind him bought the terrain and the construction materials.   I had a new place to glide for a couple of winters until we settled permanently here. :)   Fun times.

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Yeah, no snow to speak of in the city for about the last 15 years.

I feel a bit silly putting snow tires on now. Force of habit at this point.

Portugal, Spain, and Morocco are getting pummelled by storms. Since the end of January they been hit by Kristen, Leonardo, and Marta. it's raining in the azores again so might be another storm coming, but I'm not sure.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

And yet virtually no coverage of those here in the UK; it's like trump/epstien is the only worthwhile story.

Somewhat concerning, this is the crypt of Winchester cathedral, a stones throw from the river Itchen.

Central Southern England is Waterworld at the moment, coming home through the floods last night, I had to go through one place that I'd never seen flooding in before then.

Did not strike in full force Algarve or Madeira where most Brits would be or go, I guess.
As for my area, some roofs leaking and tiles to be changed, due to sustained heavy rains (uncommon) for a very long time rains.

I was in Portugal last march and was surprised by how wet it was, worse than England  :(

Pretty lush environment though, which was good. Main stops Lisboa, Coimbra, Braga and Porto.

Go inland, it's way drier, be it the N.E (Trás-os-Montes) since the Marão serra (small mountain range) acts as a barrier for rain, that long motorway tunnel (5 km) is there a for a reason, or the South (Alentejo), turning more and more into North Africa-like weather.

Also, Sintra near Lisbon is lush as Eden, as per Lord Byron, but Lisbon is not that lush, compared to Sintra that is.
Not that I like the Sintra climate, too humid.

Richard Hakluyt

I was comparing with Greece which, sadly, becomes more like a desert every time I visit.

Next time in Portugal will probably be looking at the South, starting at Lisbon of course.... cheap and convenient flights.

Duque de Bragança

Indeed, Portugal is not mediterranean geographically and climatically, at least along the coast for the matter. Alentejo is turning into a desert; used to be the wheat basket of the country. Now, only olive oil at best, and preferably in irrigated land.

Lisbon airport is cheaper, but is saturated and the oldest of the big three, with Porto and Faro.
Açores and Madeira are in a different league; the Madeira runway is for the real pilots.  :P

QuoteTrump's EPA revokes scientific finding that underpinned US fight against climate change

The Trump administration on Thursday revoked a scientific finding that long has been the central basis for U.S. action to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change, the most aggressive move by the president to roll back climate regulations.

The rule finalized by the Environmental Protection Agency rescinds a 2009 government declaration known as the endangerment finding that determined that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

The endangerment finding by the Obama administration is the legal underpinning of nearly all climate regulations under the Clean Air Act for motor vehicles, power plants and other pollution sources that are heating the planet.

Legal challenges are certain for an action that repeals all greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars and trucks, and could unleash a broader undoing of climate regulations on stationary sources such as power plants and oil and gas facilities, experts say. Overturning the finding will "raise more havoc" than other actions by the Trump administration to roll back environmental rules, said Ann Carlson, an environmental law professor at the UCLA School of Law.
