Wouldn't it be more efficient for you to put solar in your own home and sell your surplus back yourself?

Apparently it's expected that the final toll will reach "several hundred"  :(

Well fuck :(

Apparently there was a big flood in the 50's after which there were some mitigations put in place. They changed the course of the river, for example. Since then I guess the suburbs increased in the floodplain.

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Yeah, most of the flooded area is in the suburbs that were built after the river was diverted. The early warning chain broke down and there's now a lot of finger-pointing trying to deflect blame. Not very nice.

1900 still missing.

Pretty crazy stuff in Spain.
People driving home from work suddenly gettint caught in flooded tunnels.
And rather more stupidly people rushing to underground parking to rescue their cars-apparently a common problem that they get flooded.

From what I hear, and it does make logical sense, no. Economies of scale are a thing.
Also not all houses are suitable for solar and if you move you lose it/have to try and get your money back for it.

half our development team is located in/near Valencia. No losses there, luckily. The inlaws of another colleague also live there: last we heard only material damages but the info was still incomplete iirc

Quote from: Josquius on November 01, 2024, 04:04:22 AMI recently learned about a company called Ripple Energy https://rippleenergy.com/

It sounds pretty interesting. Rather than spending money on putting solar panels on your roof, instead invest a share in a full-scale green energy project and get your energy from there.
Seems like a very logical way to approach things.

Alas the problem in the UK isn't so much a lack of money for building and rather our system's hostility to actually building anything.

Nonetheless, if that gets sorted... I'm seriously tempted. Seems like it could be a good way to go overall. Anyone encountered similar elsewhere?

Smells fishy.  I read the learn more stuff and watched the vid and I'm still not sure how it works.  Raised more questions than it answered.

The weather nasty thingie that struck Valencia has moved up and I just got the "shelter in place" warning on my phone.

EDIT: This is just south of Barcelona https://x.com/MeteoMauri/status/1853379911265771817

It already passed. Heavy rain but nothing serious. South of Barcelona got the worst of it (besides Valencia of course), with flooded roads and damaged infrastructure. Thankfully, that's not a flash-flood area (unlike the area where I live, where creeks are a common feature).
