Why were the children screaming?

Probably because their parents were freaking out.

But still very British when asked about it afterwords...

Back in the day the school bus we were taking a daytrip on was playing shitty VHS tapes and suddenly a porn movie came on. The bus went so quiet the driver immediately realized what had happened

I remember when we used to go on daytrips with my school and in hindsight the movies they played were probably not too adequate for a bunch of 10ish year olds - we all loved them mind. One of the memories of my childhood is half the bus screaming when the goon falls into the toxic waste in RoboCop

We watched Peter Jackson's Braindead at school with our English teacher. Though granted we were all around 16-18 at the time.

Didn't watch it as a class but my French teacher lent me a copy of La Haine when I was 16 to convince me to do French AS and I think just flag there was more to France than Amelie

It worked. And I often think about it because it also actually really kickstarted my interest in film - within the year I was watching the Mark Kermode curated season of Iranian films on Film 4 (back when that was just what Channel 4 became when it was late).

I saw old-school Conan (and other dubious sword & sorcery films) at around 10...and many of the fantasy novels I'd read as kid were easily borderline pornography.

I turned out fine.

It is almost like having unelected and unaccountable people weilding complete control over a huge percentage of the world's resources is a bad thing.
