I woke up to a flock of quail feasting on my newly-planted grass seed. Fuckers. They all took off when I exploded one of them into a cloud of feathers with my airgun. Great way to start the morning.

I hear sirens!  Air raid sirens!  Oh, God!
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Turned out it was just the tornado sirens.  They sound every first Thursday of the month.

We can't control the tornado but we can control the guy who turns on the sirens.  If they want to collect a State paycheck they'd better set those sirens off when the State wants them.  Of course, if a tornado happens to strike on day that's not Thursday, you get a situations like you did in Joplin.
