Quote from: Maladict on June 19, 2025, 08:16:41 AMBesides, crucifixion was reserved for particularly heinous offenses, like murder or rebellion (e.g. Spartacus). Jesus was executed on political grounds, not religious ones.

I don't know. I could see the Romans doing that for religious offenses just to appease the Temple authorities.

Also were the two thugs Jesus was supposedly crucified with murderers? I seem to remember they were petty criminals. But who knows?

Quote from: Razgovory on June 18, 2025, 10:06:16 PMIt was probably this line:

So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood; see to it yourselves." 25Then the people as a whole answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!

Mathew 27: 24-25

Makes me think of that crowd in Life of Brian who somehow managed to carry on a conversation in unison.
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

They had a special meal for Juneteenth.  Fried chicken, collard greens and corn bread.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Barabbas was said to be a murderer and insurrectionist. Don't know about the other one. The whole pardoning business may never have happened though.

The Romans were pretty relaxed about religion,  as long as the people kept quiet and paid their taxes. But claiming to be King of the Jews would have been a big no-no as it challenges the emperor.

Weird thought of the day.
I'm not religious.
I don't believe in any gods.
But if I decided to be a Christian say I'd be damn good at it.
I am very good at remembering stories.  I know the backstories of all the primarchs inside out. Same shit.

Most Christian's don't know their "stories" and the ones that do aren't fun to be around :P

You should not. Religions are not good things.

Meh, I'm an atheist but don't think all religions/religious people are bad. Fundies, bad, yes. Literalists one step down from that.

Rote memorization of religious stories is not really what Christianity is about.

Judaism is the religion that is all about the stories. You don't have to believe that they are true, just that they tell tales that are important to Jewish identity.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Dozens of pilot whales got stranded in Ólafsfjord in the north of Iceland a couple of hours ago. Search and rescue teams are assisting them back out to sea.

Search and...... rescue?
It being Iceland I'd have thought search and devour would be more their speed?

Ok, but who is your favorite(s)? I'm a Vulkan, Mortarion, and Lorgar girl myself.  :nerd:
